An Act of Parliament in which only English ships could transfer goods into England. -
Tea Act
An Act of Parliament to reduce to massive amount of tea in America by only shipping the tea. This made the cost of tea rise. -
French and Indian War Ends
The 9 year war ended when the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1763. The war gave huge amounts of land to Great Britain. -
Stamps Act
An Act of the Parliament which imposed a tax on stamps. -
Boston Massacre
British soldiers shot and killed the citizens of Boston. The soldiers were also harassed by the mob of citizens. -
Boston Tea Party
The Americans wanted to protest the tax on tea by throwing all of the imported goods into the ocean. -
Coercive/Intolerable Acts
A series of laws passed by the British that were for the colonists. -
First Continental Congress
Representatives from the 13 colonies minus Georgia came together to organize an uprising against the British. -
Second Continental Congress
Representatives from all 13 colonies formed in Philadelphia after the Revolutionary War had just begun. They were the ones to declare independence from Britain. -
Lexington and Concord
First military engagements. Paul Revere set off the alarm. The British quickly had to retreat. -
Declaration of Independence Adopted
A document written to state the colonies’ intentions of becoming their own country. -
Battle of Saratoga
British wanted to isolate New England. The Americans win was vital because it helped persuade the French to join their efforts. -
Winter at Valley Forge
The third of eight winter encampments of the Continental Army. Commanded by George Washington. -
Battle of Yorktown
A battle that lasted about a month. The British lose the battle and surrender to George Washington. -
US Constitution
The constitution was written to set the ground rules for the new country of America. -
US Constitution Adopted
The basic laws created for the new country of America. This is the day that the document became official.
