    The Boston Massacre was the killing of five colonists by British regulars on March 5, 1770. It was the culmination of tensions in the American colonies that had been growing since Royal troops first appeared in Massachusetts in October 1768 to enforce the heavy tax burden imposed by Townshend Acts.

    The Intolerable Acts were the American (Patriots) for laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party.The British made no connection with the Coercive Acts and the Quebec Act. They were seen on the American mainland as malicious deed and collectively called it the intolerable act.

    The 2nd Continental Congress managed the colonial war effort, and moved incrementally towards independence.
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    British officers and women and children were captured. The fort was taken without firing a shot. Ethan Allen and about 125 Green Mountain boy. The key strategic location in New York. The Americans had won this battle.

    The Battle of Bunker Hill was located near Boston. The red coats victorious in third charge. The Americans had ran out of ammunition. There were moral victory for American army. This was the costliest battle for British during the whole war. The British had won this battle.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and adopted by the Second Continental Congress, states the reasons the British colonies of North America sought independence in July of 1776.

    Thomas Paine publishes his pamphlet “Common Sense,” setting forth his arguments in favor of American independence. Most colonists considered themselves to be aggrieved Britons. The Common Sense played a great role in transforming a colonial squabble into the American Revolution.
  • Battle of Trenton

    This was a surprise attack the day after Christmas. Washington crossed the Delaware, over the next 10 days, won two crucial battles of the American Revolution. Washington had defeated a formidable garrison of Hessian mercenaries before withdrawing. He had returned to British forces south. The Americans won this victory.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Saratoga was the turning point of the war. The American victory changed France policies. Feb. 1778 France and America formed an alliance. Spain had declared war in 1779. The Americans had won this battle.
  • Kings Mountains

    Patriots under colonel William Campbell defeat (loyalists) under major Patrick Ferguson. Ferguson was killed and his men Slaughtered after unwilling to surrender. The Patriots won this battle.
  • Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    The British forces was led by Gen. Cornwalls. American forces led by General Greene. British victortious but significant losses.
  • British Surrender at Yorktown

    George Washington had commanded a force of 17000 French and Continental troops. This battle was against British General Lord Charles Cornwalls. French blockade aided this final battle. To escape the British was impossible. The general Benjamin Lincoln accepted the surrender sword.
  • Treaty of Paris Signed

    The Treaty of Paris was negotiated between the United States and Great Britain. This ended the revolutionary war and recognized American independence.
