  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This was a tax on the colonies and their paper goods. It was imposed by the king and queen to make the colonies poor. This event is symmetrical.   • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The British troops were in the colonists' towns, enforcing laws and curfews. This angered the colonists, and tensions rose. They began throwing rocks and yelling insults.   • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    In response to the stamp act and unfair taxing on tea, a group of colonists -- called the sons of liberty-- raided a ship at night, dressed as Indians. They threw the tea overboard, spoiling it.   • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    British troops were sent town to town to take the colonists' guns and weapons, in case of rebellion. Colonists met the British outside of Lexington, and fought, where the "shot heard around the world" was heard-- the beginning of the American revolution.   • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Americans lined up on Bunker's Hill to prevent the British from coming in. The British assaults failed the first two tries and they were forced to retreat. On the third assault, the colonists ran out of ammunition and had to be driven out. The British technically won, but they lost....because the ONLY reason they won was because the British had more supplies.     The colonists took it in their own hands to declare their independence. It was war! This document was approved on July 4th, 177, in Independence Hall, PA, by the Second Continental Congress.   • Battles of Trenton and Princeton

    Battles of Trenton and Princeton
    Washington crossed the Delaware river to sneak attack Hessians in Trenton, New Jersey. The attack forced the hessians to retreat to the limits of New Jersey. This is asymmetrical, because it is the first time gorilla warfare was used by the colonists.

    Battle of Saratoga
    The battle of Saratoga was a major turning point in the American Revolution. The British planned on cutting the communication in the 13 colonies, which could have occurred if they won the battle of Saratoga. But, fortunately, the colonists won and ran the British out, stopping their advancement. This victory got the French involved, because it showed them that the colonists weren't losers.     George Washington’s Continental Army camped at Valley Forge, located in Delaware, in the winter of 1777-1778. It was in the winter camp where George Washington and former Prussian military officer Friedrich Wilhelm Baron von Steuben transformed the sick Continental Army into a unified, healthy force.   • War of the South/Charleston

    War of the South/Charleston
    This went on for a long time. The British gained 1/3 of the land in the south. Washington sent his men to "chase" the British out, by constantly sneak attacking them, and causing them to retreat. Colonists were waiting in Virginia, and a large battle occurred. The British won, but they felt like they had lost, since Cornwallis shot his OWN MEN. This was a symmetrical event.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    Cornwallis and his men established in Yorktown. Washington, with the French, surrounded the town and captured Cornwallis. They held him captive for 2 months, until the British surrendered. The war was over!! This was asymmetrical.
