French and Indian War
England was at peace for the first time in 50 years, but they were in a massive debt for fighting lots of wars. Taxation did increase on the colonies, but the British felt that the wars were fought in interest of protecting the colonies. This is important because it was pretty much the start of something -
Treaty of 1763
The Treaty officially ended the French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War. This war was between France and Great Britain. France gave up all territories in mainland North America which ended any Military threats. This is important because this Treaty ended such a long war, that was well overdue. -
Proclamation of 1763
This proclamation forbid settlers to go beyond the Appalachian Mountains. This allowed England to control the westward expansion. Eventually, it failed and has a low effect. Settlers continued to swarm across the boundary and to claim lands farther into the Ohio RIver Valley, and it was no longer policed by British troops. This is important because, it shows how the British were already trying to be incharge of things. -
Stamp Act
This required people to buy stamps for ships, papers, and legal documents. It was needed for licenses, newspapers, and more. The stamp was not expensive, but it was upsetting the colonists because it was and effort to raise money. Due to all the complaints, Patrick Henry called for a repeal of the tax, or the kind would have to face munity. This is important because the colonists are starting to get fed up with prices being raised. -
Boston Massacre
A deadly riot between American Colonists and British soldiers. The British become oppression and brutality. This was a bad incident which led to soldiers being tried and found guilty of manslaughter. They were called murders by colonial propaganda. This is important because uproars started between different groups. -
Committees of Correspondence
This proposed the creation of committees in Boston to publicize the grievances against England throughout the colony. It was a propaganda. -
Boston Tea Party
The British East India Company was on the edge of bankruptcy and the Tea Act was an attempt to save the company. When British tried to make them pay taxes, the colonies poured a bunch of tea into the water. It gave the right to export tea directly to the colonies without paying navigation taxes that were imposed on colonial merchant. -
Intolerable Acts
This was the response of the Boston Tea Party. This closed the port of Boston, reduced self-government autonomy, those accused of crimes had to be tried in England, and must quarter troops. This sparked new resistance throughout the colonies. -
Lexington and Concord
This was a battle fought in small towns outside of Boston. The redcoats start the battle, and it was the first war of the Revolutionary war. -
Bunker Hill
This was another battle of the Revolutionary War. It was in the early stages of the war. The British won, but they had to pay a lot to fix things. -
Publication of Common Sense
This was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine, that advocated Independence from Great Britain to the people in the 13 colonies. This pamphlet encourages people in the Colonies to fight for the egalitarian government. -
Declaration of Independence
A document written by Thomas Jefferson declaring freedom for the 13 colonies from Great Britain. This was acquired at the Second Continental Congress. -
Saratoga
This was a two days shy of a month long battle. It took place in NY, and the second decisive American Victory. It was a major turning point in the war and inspired France to agree to Treaty. -
Valley Forge
General Washington had his army camp in Pennsylvania during the winter of 1777, over 2000 men died from the terrible, freezing weather. The surviving soldiers emerged in the spring and became inspired. -
Cowpens
This was an engagement of the American Revolutionary War. It was fought near a town in South Carolina against U.S and British forces. -
Treaty of Paris 1783
This was signed between the U.S and British representatives. This was the official ending of the American Revolutionary war, this agreement granted U.S western territory. -
Yorktown
The French arrived to support in this Battle. Cornwallis ended up surrendering to the Continental Army and America won the war. This is the most important battle in the Revolutionary War.
