  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    the stamp act was a law passed by the British to put stamps on certain items to increase there tax. It was a major problem because the tax was only taking place in the 13 colonies and the colonies didn't get any of the money that they where getting taxed.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    patriots where insulting the British troops throwing rocks, and yelling fire and insults. the British troops thought there superior officer said fire so they shot. 5 colonist where killed and six where injured.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A group of patriots called the Sons of Liberty raided a British ship to protest the taxation without representation.
  • Lexington/Concord

    Lexington/Concord
    the battle started because colonist where breaking curfew and the British came to take there guns. minute men tried to stop the British from getting to concord for as long as possible. when the British got to concord they where forced to retreat right away giving the colonist hope.
  • Bunker (Breed's) Hill

    Bunker (Breed's) Hill
    it was a battle that made the British realize that they could beat the British. they made the British retreat three times until they ran out of ammo and had to retreat. The British won the battle but felt like they lost.
  • Common Sense

    Common sense was written by Thomas Paine. It basically told citizens of the colonies that we deserve independence. It also changed the publics opinion of gaining independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    It was a official separation from the British. It was written by Thomas Jefferson and it was the official starting point of the war.
  • Battle at Trenton/Princeton

    Battle at Trenton/Princeton
    This is the battle where George Washington and his men crossed the Delaware. he attacked the hessians forcing them to retreat. After they did that the British came to take Trenton back but George was gone and he attacked Princeton because the British left from there to take back Trenton. this was a big deal because it resulted in many men staying in the army that where going to quit after there first service.
  • Continental Army Wintering at Valley Forge

    Continental Army Wintering at Valley Forge
    Over 11000 thousand troops stayed here from Dec 19, 1777 – Jun 19, 1778. hundreds died from disease but they stayed together because of the cause of freedom and George Washington stayed there with them.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    this was the turning point of the war. The French joined the patriots to fight here. They also stopped the British from splitting the colonies off.
  • War in The South/Charleston

    War in The South/Charleston
    the British trying to take over the south. it worked well for them right away as they where able to take over 1/3 of the land. The British won Charleston basically giving them control of the south. but they lost popular opinion over time.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    this is what lead to the end of the war. George Washington sent a fake attack in Quinten. Then he took over York town taking General Cornwallis captive after he surrendered
