    The Seven Years War

    Also known as the French and Indian war. The war spread over all 5 continents. It was mainly fought between Britain and France over land. After this war it left Britain in great debt causing them to higher taxes and create The Stamp Act.

    The Stamp Act
    This act imposed taxes on all paper documents in the colonies. The British did this because of their severe debt in the seven years war. This high tax drove the colonists to start rioting against the British.

    It taxed goods sent to the American colonies, the Americans saw this as an abuse of power because they had no representation in parliament. Then Leading to the Boston Massacre.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    With tensions growing stronger a Boston colonist gets into an argument with a British soldier and it escalates to a crowd of 200 colonists surrounding the British troops. Colonists proceed to throw rocks at the soldiers. The soldiers lose their cool and start firing into the crowd.

    This was a colonist revolt against The Tea act that placed a high taxes on tea. The colonists dumped 92,000 lbs of tea into the harbor, which is worth about $1 million today.

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The start of Revolutionary War. Tensions growing between the colonials and the British authorities, mainly in Massachusetts. On April 18, 1775, British troops went from Boston to Concord in order to take weapons. Paul Revere sounded the alarm, and colonials started preparing to cut off the Redcoats. A confrontation in the Lexington town began the fighting. British then quickly retreating due to heavy fire.

    This battle happened early during the revolutionary war. The battle was at Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. It was between the americans and the British. The British won but took many casualties. Giving th Americans confidence for their next battle.

    Benedict Arnold and Richard Montgomery try to take over the British city Quebec and win some support for the American cause in Canada. The attack failed, and it cost Montgomery his life. The battle was the first major defeat for the Americans.

    Siege of Charleston, was a short but important attack in the early years of the American Revolution. A small American force defended Charleston. Americans use the defenses on Sullivan’s Island which played a critical role in the victory.

    The Declaration of Independence was the deciding factor in the 13 colonies leaving the british empire. The British was not going to let this slide so they then started attacking the americans to try and take them off their land.

    George Washington led his army across the delaware river. Within ten days after crossing the river he wins two very important battles of the revolution. Washington defeats the garrison of Hessian mercenaries.

    The Battle of Saratoga was in September and October in 1777, during the 2nd year of the American Revolution. It had two important battles, fought eighteen days apart, and was a important victory for the Continental Army and a vital turning point in the Revolutionary war
  • The Battle of Rhode Island

    The Battle of Rhode Island
    The Battle of Rhode Island started with the crossing with Howland's Ferry carrying 11,000 Continental soldiers. The French closed off Narragansett bay, forcing the British to abandon their naval force. The American army, led by Sullivan, arrived at Rhode Island and forced the British soldiers to surrender behind defenses put around Newport.

    It was a battle between Patriots and Loyalists in South Carolina during the Southern Campaign of the American Revolutionary War, ending in a victory for the Patriots.
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown
    George Washington led the French and Continental soldiers to start the battle against the British. He told Marquis de Lafayette to block Cornwallis’ escape from Yorktown from all angles. By September, Washington had completely surrounded Cornwallis. After three weeks of fighting, Cornwallis surrendered. Thus ending the war

    After the Battle of Yorktown, fighting for land ended. The treaty was signed saying that the British saw the independence of the U.S with restrictions such as the Mississippi River. This ended the Revolution.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    Massachusetts raised taxes to help pay off debt to the war. This frustrated lots of farmers who can't pay high taxes causing thus leading to a rebellion. 1,200 farmers led by Daniel Shay went to Springfield to get weapons. They were met by the militia who shot at them taking down some farmers. The rebellion showed the need for a federal government.
