Battles of Lexington and Concord
British troops were sent to capture John Hancock and Samual Adams, but they escaped. Many lives were lost. 273 British soldiers were lost, and only 94 colonists. They were fought in Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, within the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy, and Cambridge. -
Bunker Hill
Located on the Charlestown Peninsula on the North side of Boston Harbor. There was 2,400 British troops against 1,500 Americans. The British won but it at a great cost. -
Washington Crosses the Delaware
They attacked and defeated Hessian troops quartered in and around the village. -
Battle of Brandyiwne Pennsylvania
This was between the Continental Army led by General George Washington and the British forces headed by General William Howe. The British troops win because the Continental Army was unfamiliar with the area. -
Battle of German Town
Washington planned to attack Howe's 9000 troops stationed in German Town, but Howe's troops strongly defended and it caused Washington to retreat. -
French Alliance
The treaty provided for an alliance to aid Franceif England attacks, and that neither France or the United States would make peace with England until the independence of the United States was recognized. The knowledge of the Alliance did not come to Washington until May Day, 1778. -
British Capture Charleston
When the British took over Charleston, they gained much comtrol over the southern colonies as well. Charleston was very important because it was a port and a strategic center for the Continental Army. -
Cowpens
American forces were out numbered and not prepared, but they were still victorious because Cornwallis surrendered.
