Battle of Bunker Hill

VICTOR:
British -British Moral after the battle was significantly lower. Soldiers went in to battle believing that the rebels would be easily supressed.
-British casualties reached over 1000 men where the Colonists only had slightly over 400 casualties
-This battle let both sides know that the war would take longer origionally anticipated
-Named one of the deadliest wars of the Revolution -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of Bunker HIll began when Clonists in Charleston, Massachusets learned a British force was nearby with plans to occupy Dorchester Heights, an area in South Boston. The Battle was fought on Breeds hill where colonists had secured a possition on the top of the hill. British soldiers approached with bayonets drawn when angry colonists fired down upon the British. Alhough the British did eventually occupy the hill, however their losses were to heavy to effectivly make use of the hill. -
Battle of Long Island
British Generals William Howe, Lord Charles Cornwallis & Sir Henry Clinton landed on Long Island backed up by a British force of 20,000 men. George Washington, Israel Putnam & William Alexander were leading a troop of 10,000 men when their forces met. Only 63 British soldiers were killed, and another 337 injured where George Washington had lost nearly a quarter of his force. Roughly 1000 soldiers were killed or injured, and another 1000 were captured. -
Battle of Long Island

-George Washington along with 9,000 other men retreat in order to fight another day rather then face the British forces again
-After the Primary battle, a downpour made other British attacks seem unlikely -

Battle of Brandywine

*William Howe divided his men into two groups when he attacked Washington. One group was ordered to attack from the front while the other caught Washington off-guard by flanking him

Victor:The battle was technically a American Victory because they held the field of battle, But many see the Battle as a Draw

*Viewed as a Draw because the British were only defending Baggage, and they were successfull to do so.
*Lee's men were being hit hard and he began to retreat while Washington's men fought on.
*After the Battle, Lee and Washington never fought together again. -
