Boston Tea Party
Colonists dressed as Indians and threw tea into the harbor. They didn't like being taxed without representation by the British. -
Intolerable Acts
The British came up with consequences to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The first act shut down the Boston harbor, and the second forbade colonisits to hold more than one town meeting per year. The third allowed officials to be tried for major crimes in Britian or Canada, and the fourth forced colonists to house British soldiers. -
Lexngton and Concord
British troops were sent to confescate colonial weapons. The angry colonists had formed a militia to confront the British and were victorious. -
Wahington Becomes Head of Army
Washington becomes Commander in Chief of the Continental Army in hope to unite the colonies. He was chosen for his previous military experience. -
Declaration of Independence Signed
The United States has officially delcared its freedom from Britain. The document was written by Thomas Jefferson. -
Battle of Long Island
This was the first major war after the Declaration of Independence which took place in Brooklyn. The U.S. lost giving the British control of the New York City. -
Battle of Saratoga
After slowly traveling through the forest, the British were surrounded by the Americans. The U.S. were victorious after the Britsh surrendered. -
Battle of Yorktown
The British were surrounded; the Americans were on land and the French Navy blocked the river. Eventually the British surrendered, ending the battle and potentially the war. -
Treaty of Paris
Representatives from Britain and the U.S. met in Paris and signed the treaty. This officially ended the American Revolutionary War.
