  • Boston Tea Party

  • Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were the American Patriots' term for a series of punishment laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea party. They were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their defiance in throwing a large tea shipment into Boston harbor.
  • Lexington and Concord

    1775 conflicts between Massachusetts colonists and British soliders that started the Revolutionary War. The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. They were fought on April 19, 1775, in Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, within the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy (present-day Arlington), and Cambridge, near Boston.
  • Washington Becomes Head of Army

John Adams pointed out there were also great political advantages in having someone outside of New England take command of a military force that was congregated around Boston and largely made up of New Englanders.
