Key Events:
1) The British won because the colonists ran out of ammo and suplies. The British had more casualties though.
2) The battle of Bunker Hill was actually fought on Breed's Hill. There are three theory as to why this happened.
3) The colonists ended up taking the hill back. This helped raise the morale of the colonists because they knew they could fight the British sucessfully. -
Battle of Long Island Continued
Almost a quater of washingtons army was killed, captured, or went missing.Washingtons troop didnt even come close to defeating the British. -
Battle of Long Island

1) The British took on Washingtons troops and won. Washington decided to flee the battlefield.
2) The rain helped the American troops because it made it less likely for the British to attack. Also the wind stopped General Howe from cutting off Washington's ship.
3) George Washington lost a significant number of colnists. -
The Battle of Trenton

1) Colonel John Fitzgerald new that Germans drink a lot on Christmas, so they decided to attack on December 26. Washington's plan worked because they won.

Battle of Brandywine
British General: Sir William Howe
Continental General: George Washington
Victor: British
1) Washington was constantly getting different and contradicting reports about the British army. They though that the British were moving north, but later they find out that they were just trying to trick the continental army. After more indefinet reports, the British army attacked from the north.
2) The British took a lunch and tea break at the top of Osborne Hill. -
Battle of Brandywine Continued
This was because the cannons were difficut for the army to move up the hill.
3) At Birmingham hill, General Howe launched a new attack that pushed the colonists back 5 times. At this point, the officers had trouble keeping up the colonist's morale. -
Battle of Saratoga
British General: General John Burgoyne
Continetla General: Benjamin Lincoln, Benedict arnold, Horatio Gates
Victor: Continenal Army
1) The continental army was instructed to aim diffectly for Frazer. Frazer had been a big help for the British army. After a couple bullets hit his surroundings, he was hit and was mortally wounded. This made the British retreat for a little while.
2) Part of the American troops under Colonel Brooke was able to fight off the Germans on the far right. -
Battle of Saratpga Continued
This gave them access to tents, ammunition, and artillary which they needed.
3) This victory for the Americans was the turning point in the war for independence. -
Battle of Monmouth
British General: Sir Henry Clinton
Continental General: George Washington
Victor: Draw
1) General Lee had started to retreat troops for no particular reason. George Washington found this odd and went to their location to find out why. Lee had no logical answer, but said that they couldnt win against the British. George Washington found this unacceptable and ordered the troops to attack.
2) Washington got everybody back into line and had them defend. They held the British off fairly well. -
Battle of Monmouth Continued
Washington orders Lee to order the troops to defend the line, but no order was eve given. People that were tired went away from the retrieting column and joined Washington. Washington now had a nice army under his command.
3) In this battle, Molly Pitcher volunteered to take her wounded husband's place at a cannon. -
Capture of Savannah Continued
He captured over 400 men from Howe's troops. This left Howe with less then half of the army he started with. -
Capture of Savannah
British General: Colonel Archibald Campbell
Continental General: Robert Howe
Victor: British
1) When the British were marching toward Howe's troops, they passed a slave who told them that there was a way to flank around Howe's left through a swamp. Roughly 600 soldiers were ordered to follow the slave.
2) After they sucessfully flanked Howe's troops, the main body charged towards Howe. Howe ordered his men to retriet immedietly.
3) Cambell gained controll over most of the city. -
Cowpens
British General: Banastre Tarleton
Continental General: Daniel Morgan
Victor: Americans
1) Morgan had troops open fire on charging dragoons. Then British infantry charged toward Morgan's troops. The first two lines of American troops fell back, and Tarlton thought it was a full blown retreat.
2) After their withdrawal, Howard's militia turned around and fired at the British. Next they did a full bayonet charge and it wrecked Tarleton's troop. -
Cowpens Continued
3) The British lost thier will to fight. They were tired, hungry, and just didnt have any morale left in them. They surrendered to the Amereicans. -
Guilford Court House
British general: Charles Cornwalis
American General: Nathanael Greene
Victor: Brit
1) The first line of North Carolina militia retreated after the center collapsed. Before they retreated, they made heavy caualties on the British.
2) The second line of the North Carolina miltia was in a forest.
They caused even more heavy losses for the British. The Britsih were still able to break through.
3)The British were taking heavy fire from the third line and finally shot cannons toward Greene's troops. -
Yorktown
British General: Cornwalis
American General: George Washington
Victor: Americans
1) On October 9, the French and American troops weer prepared to attack the British. George Washington fired the first shot. Next, they allied force open fired all night on the British.
2) The French aimed for British ships on the Harbor and sucessfully destroyed a few.
3) The allied forces started to attack the British's redoubts. They had launched an all out attack on the British. -
Yorktown Continued
4) Cornwalis tried to evacuate the area. They couldnt though because they were pinned down by the Americans and French. The British realized it was hopeless. They surrendered.
