Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was the first battle of the American Revolution. It was also known as the "shot heard around the world" which means it started the revolution. 900 British went to Lexington and Concord to capture John Hancock ans Sam Adams. However, Paul Rivere warned them and got all their ammo out of storage before the British came. -

2nd Continental Congress
the Congress voted to create the Continental Army out of the militia units around Boston and appointed George Washington as commanding general of the Continental Army. They also sent the Olive Branch Petition to the Crown in order to reconcile with the British, but it did no good. Also made the D.O.I. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
This battle gave the Americans the belief that hey can indeed fight against the British and be successful. Many British soldiers died or were injured. British obtained the Boston Harbor through this. -
Horatio Gates
Appionted by Washington as a commandor of the Continental Army. He was very passive and is often called "Granny Gates" for his cautious approach. Is known for his big win at Saratoga, which really is because of Benedict Arnold. -
Common Sense
Thomas Paine wrote this pamphlet to rally up the Americans against the Bristish. It showed how the British were mistreating them and how they showed get their independence. People read it at gathering spots to give people motivation to fight and rebel. -

Document from America declaring their independence from Britian. Was signed by everyone at the 2nd continental congress. -

Adopted by the 2nd contenintal congress to give them the power to direct the Revolution. was signed by all 13 colonies and deal with the European countries and Natives. -
Battle of Long Island
Prime Minister Lord North orders the capture of NYC to cut off New England from the rest of the colonies. Surrounds Washington and makes him retreat to New Jersey then to Pennsylvania. -
Battle of Trenton
Washington led his troops in the morning and in the cold weather acroos the Delaware River to battle the Hassian soldiers. This caught them off guard leading the Americans to a quick win. It was Christmas which means the Hassians were drinking and/or drunk. Gave Washington some of the land lost back to him. -
Battle of Saratoga
Changing point in the war. France and Spain decide to come into the war on the side of the Americans. Big win for the Americans -
Treaty of Alliances
Treaty that allied America and France in the Revolution. It also recognized France as the owner of the West Indies. -
Friedrich Wilhelm Von Steuben
A Prussian Commandor who Washington hired to train 120 men at Bunker Hill to become the ideal soldier, which they would then spread to the other soldiers. He was also a child raper. -
Henry Clinton
Clinton leads 8,000 British soldiers to Charlestown, SC from NY. He did this to cut off America from the ports on the East coast as well as a way to trap them. General Gates was sent to Charlestown but was embarrassed by Clinton in his attempt to protect the Charlestown Harbor. -
Guilford Courthouse
The British ultimately won this battle however they suffered so many casualties it was an equal win. Nathaneal Greene led America while Cornwallis led the British in this battle in Guilford Courthouse, NC. -
Nathanael Greene
Successor of General Gates after his loss at Charlestown. Greene defeated Cornwallis in South carolina forcing his troops north and leading to Cornwallis' troops being tapped. -
Battle Of Yorktown
Win by the American forces as well as the French troops against the British. They trapped General Cornwallis and his troops ultimately leading to the negotiation of the end of the war. Also Cornwallis hid from Washington as his troops surrendored to the patriots. -
Yorktown Strategy
Washington wanted to trap the Cornwallis and his troops so he had Nathaniel Green come from the South while he came from the North. But what made this succeed is the French, which Washington commanded to come from the sea so that the British were surrounded. -
Treaty of Paris 1783
Treaty was signed without the knowledge of Spain and France due to their inability to come up with a median. Britian acknowledged America as its own country giving them their independence and ending the war. -
Constitutional Convention
Was a meeting in Philadelphia to address some of the problems in America. They put all the corrections together to make the US Constitution which then went into effect in 1789. -
President Elected
President George Washington is elected as the first president of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
