  • Lexington & Concord

    This was one of the Americans' first few victories, 200 British soldiers were killed or wounded by the patriots.
  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    The Americans overtake the British Fort Ticonderoga to take supplies to use in the war. This was when George Washington was officially named General of the Continental Army. Wanting peace, the congress sends Washington the Olive Branch Petition which he later rejects.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The British are forced to leave Boston after Henry Knox helped the Americans by giving them weapons from the raid of Fort Ticonderoga earlier.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine. He talks about how independance is inevitable and that the Americans will protect their rights from England's government. This partially inspired Americans to to try to get a republican government and unity.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Dec. of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson, it was a formal declaration for independence in America. It stated that the colonists are taking steps to be free from the British government. It listed their grievances and complaints.
  • Battles of New York

    Washington is forced to retreat to save his small army from the large experienced British army. The British win control of New York City and that becomes their base.
  • Battle of Trenton

    The battle of Trenton was a sneak attack on Christmas night by the Americans. This is one of the most famous battles as it was a great victory for the Americans and it was first time they tried a sneak attack. It was successful as the Hessians surrendered.
