  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was passed in 1775, it was to say that all paper for documents and printed items has to be stamped. Because of the stamp act, taxes reached every colonist.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts was passed in 1767. This gave the colonists levy duties (pay taxes for the government to collect) on imported materials and tea. This enraged the colonists and Samuel Adams organized a boycott. Because of the riot, 2000 British soldiers got stationed in Boston.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre went off in 1770. During this, a mob gathered at Customs House, this resulted in 5 colonists being killed.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act was passed in 1773. This act let The East India Company avoid taxes. The Boston Tea Party, was during the Tea Act, and this is when Indians, disguised as colonists dumped 18000 lbs of tea in the harbor because they were angry about the Eat India Company.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts was passed in 1774 as a respose to the Boson Tea Party. These acts closed the Boston Harbor. It also quartered soldiers in empty homes and buildings. During the intolerable acts the First Continental Congress claimed colonial rights and supported protests.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    In 1775, the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia. While they were there, they debated independence, recognized the militiamen as part of the Continental Army, appointed George Washington commander, and printed paper money to pay troops.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    In 1775, the Olive Branch Petition was sent by congress to restore harmony. George III rejected the petition, and orders a naval blockade.
  • British Troops Attack Militia

    British Troops Attack Militia
    The British troops attacked the militia north of Boston in 1775. This ended in 450 colonist casualties and over 1000 British casualties.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was adopted July 4th, 1776. In the declaration, there was a list of rights and complaints. That list included people having natural rights to life, liberty and property, people consenting to obey a government that protects rights, and that people can resist or overthrow tyrannical government.
  • Washington Crosses the Delaware River

    Washington Crosses the Delaware River
    On Christmas of 1776, George Washington successfully crosses the Delaware River into New Jersey. After they crosses, Washington surprised Hessian Garrison and won the Battle Of Trenton.
  • Fight for Philadelphia

    Fight for Philadelphia
    In the summer of 1777, William Howe beat Washington at Brandywine PA. He took over the capital, Philadelphia. After this, the continental congress fled.
  • Friedrich Von Steuben goes to Valley Forge

    Friedrich Von Steuben goes to Valley Forge
    In 1778 Friedrich Von Steuben wen to Valley Forge. While he was there he trained colonists in fighting skills, and field maneuvers of regular army.
  • Charles Town Captured

    Charles Town Captured
    In 1780, Charles town was captured by the British Army. This was there greatest victory of the war. The British commander, Charles Cornwallis smashed through South Carolina.
  • Cornwallis Surrendered

    Cornwallis Surrendered
    In 1781 General Cornwallis surrendered. The Americans brought victory at Yorktown. The American and French sieged Yorktown, and captured the British for 3 weeks. On October 17th, 1781, Cornwallis finally surrendered.
  • Treaty Of Paris signed

    Treaty Of Paris signed
    September of 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed. In the treaty, it confirmed U.S independence and set bounderies for the new nation, ignored Native American rights, and promised the repayment of depts.
