French and Indian War
This was the war between the French and English colonies. They were fighting over land and the natural resources that came with it. It caused many problems for the colonists because it cost a lot of money. -
Proclamation Line
King George ll issued the Royal Proclamation to prevent the Colonists from expanding west. He wanted to keep control of the colonies. This made the colonists very angry and most of them did not listen to the law. -

The British Parliament put a tax on sugar to help pay for the costs of the French and Indian war. Also other everyday items were taxed. This angered the colonists -

The Sons of Liberty was a vigilante group to serve justice against the extreme amounts of taxes the Colonists had to pay. -
The Stamp Act
The British Parliament passed this act to tax the colonists of every single piece of paper they used. Everything that was printed had a tax. They needed this money so they could pay off the French and Indian war costs. Colonists rioted and boycotted. The Sons of Liberty were created. -
Townshend Acts
This was another tax issued by the British Parliament. It put a tax on almost every everyday item. It was also created to help pay for the French and Indian war. More boycotts and riots. -
Lexington and Concord
The battles of Lexington and concord were the first battles of the American Revolution. The British went to attack the colonists at Concord. The colonists made them draw back.The first shot of the whole war was shot at Lexington. It was heard from everywhere so it was called "The Shot Heard From Around the World". This set off all future battles of the war. -
Boston Tea Party
The Sons of Liberty were angered by the taxes so they dumped millions of dollars worth of tea into the Harbor. This costed the British Economy so much and they closed the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
These acts were not meant as a tax, they were meant as punishment against the colonists. They taxed almost everything and put them under stricter law. -
The Battle of Long Island
The british won this war and capture New York and Long Island along with the win. This shook Washingtons confidence in his capabilities to win the war. This caused him to take his troops and retreat to Pennsylvainia -
Battle of Brandywine
This is the battle that the most troops fought in. The British won and it shook the confidence of the Colonists. -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle was one by the Colonists and gave them a large boost of confidence. It was their first real win and it really defined Patriot history. The British surrendered because they lost too many men and supplies. Is considered the turning point of the war. -
Battle of Monmouth
There was no winner of this batte, but it did show the British that the Colonists actually knew how to fight properly -
Battle of Yorktown
This is the most important battle of the war. This was the last battle of the whole war, giving the victors (the Colonists) freedom and independence. The British were gravely outnumbered for this battle, which lead to the victory of the Colonists -
Treaty of Paris
This is the treaty that officially documented the end of the war. It stated the colonists had their independence
