    During the Charleston Tea Party, a ship called the Britannia was carrying passengers to the colonies from London. They had smuggled tea on board, and once the captain denied it, the British made the merchants throw the tea overboard.

    This was the first fight in the war, in which British troops were sent to confiscate colonial weapons, but the colonists fought back until they defeat 700 British soldiers.
  • Declaration of Independence Signed

    The document of the Declaration of Independence declared the colonies being a free state from the British. Although they still had to fight the war, they declared themselves independent. The document included a Preamble, a Statement of Beliefs, list of Grievances, Attempts at Negotiation, and finally the Declaration.

    The winter at Valley Forge was a brutal winter. The continental army was being trained, but they had shortages of food, shelter, and clothing. Many soldiers died, but the resulting army was, (although small), trained to fight.
  • Battle of Camden

    This battle was a major win for the British, (and a very lopsided one too), in South Carolina. 2000 Patriots were either killed or taken prisoner, and they lost a lot of artillery. After this, General gates was replaced by Nathaniel Green.
  • Battle at Kings Mountain

    This battle was an important American Victory. Most of the people fighting for the British were loyalists from the South, but the Patriots were able to take them out.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    Battle of Cowpens
    This battle took place in the southern campaign. This battle was a turning point of the war in the South. Under General Daniel Morgan, the Patriots were able to beat the British and take another victory.
  • Battle of Eutaw Springs

    The Battle of Eutaw Springs was the last engagement of war in the Carolinas. In the beginning, the British were winning but eventually the general withdrew his forces until the end of the war.
  • Battle of Yorktown-September 28, 1781, to October 19, 1781

    Battle of Yorktown-September 28, 1781, to October 19, 1781
    The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle before the British surrendered. George Washington surrounded the city of Yorktown, and after weeks of fighting, General Cornwallis finally gave up.
  • Treaty of Paris Signed

    Treaty of Paris Signed
    After the Battle of Yorktown, the British had surrendered and America had earned its Independence. Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, and John Adams are sent to Paris to make an agreement with the British. After establishing that America was a free state, the War was over and we had won.
