The Patriots fought the British when they placed the tax on the tea. Apr 19, 1775 Lexington / Concord The Battle of Lexington and Concord is asymmetrical. The British troops had to make up a shortfall. 1777 Continental Army wintering at Valley Forge The Continental Army was under General George Washington. They suffered the defeats against the British. They suffered the battle of Brandywine, also the battle of Germantown. In the winter of 1777-1778 the American army had 11,000 soldiers who were stationed at Valley Forge. There were hundreds of soldiers who dies from disease. Sep 19, 1777 Battle of Saratoga There were two battles of Saratoga, which was the turning point in the American Revolution.There general was British General John Burgoyne. They achieved a costly victory which was also small. General Burgoyne surrendered ten days after he attacked the Americans at Bemis Heights. The French entered the war as their ally. Sep 28, 1781 Battle of Yorktown George Washington commanded a force of 17,000 French and continental troops. On September 28, George Washington completely encircled Cornwallis and Yorktown with the Continental and French troop forces. On October17, 1781, three weeks after the non-stop bombardment, Cornwallis surrendered to Washington in the field of Yorktown. He ended the War for Independence effectively.
