The Concords were the first to defeat the British. The British marched on to the Concord, where they found a empty arsenal. The british lined up to go back to Boston, than they were slaughtered by the concords. The british fell badly and were defeated for the first time. -
Philadelphia
The colonial leaders called a second Continental Congress in Philadelphia to debate their next move. Philadelphia conducted the second Continental Congress. They picked George Washington to be the Commander of the Continental Army. But they all had some disagreements but at the end of the day they wanted George Washington to be the commander. -
Bunker Hill
The British general Thomas Gage decided to strike at militiamen on Breeds Hill, north of the city. General Thomas Gage sent 2,400 british soldiers up the hill. But the British army couldn't beat the colonists they had mow down the "redcoats" before they started to retreat. By the time the smoke cleared the colonists men had lost over 450 men. -
New York
The british quickly attempted to to seize New York City. The British Sailed into New York Harbor with a force of 32,000 soldiers. But they also had included thousands of German Mercenaries, or the had hired soldiers. -
Trenton
George Washington was desperate for a ealy victory.Washington risked everything on one bold stroke set for christmas night. Washington led 2,400 men in a small rowboats across the delaware river. They defeated a garrison of Hessians in a surprise attack. -
Saratoga
The surrender at saratoga turned out to be the one most important events of the war. The Saratoga won against the france, Frances belief that the Americans could win the war. As a result the French signed an alliance with the Americans. -
Valley Forge
What happened in Paris messed up George Washington army was low on supplies and on food. They fought to stay alive at winter camp in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.More than 2,000 of soldiers died. Their endurance and suffering filled Washington's letters to the Congress and his friends. -
Marquis De Lafayette
Marquis asked french to give him soldiers so that he could help the Americans. He led a command in virginia in the last year of the war. With the help of such Europeans military leaders, the raw Continental Army became an effective fighting force. -
Yorktown
The British surrendered to the Americans in Virginia. The commander that surrendered was Charles Cornwallis. -
Treaty of Paris
In september 1783 the delegates signed treaty of paris which had confirmed U.S. independence. They than set boundaries of the new nation. The United states now had stretched from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi river and from Canada to the Florida border.
