Proclamation of 1763
After the French and Indian war than came the Proclamatian of 1763 in which forbade all settlers from settling past a line drawn along the Appalachian mountains. -
Sugar Act
the Sugar Act begun in 1764 that put a three-cent tax on foreign refined sugar and increased taxes on coffe,indigo,ect.These taxes affected only a certain part of the population ,but the affected merchants were very vocal.Besides,the taxes being enacted [or raised] without the consent of the colonists.This was one of the first instances in which colonists wanted a say on how much they were taxed. -
Stamp Act
An act of the Parliment of Great Britian that imposed a direct tax on the colonies of British America and required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamed paper produced in the London,carrying an embossed revenue stamp. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a street fight .Between a "patriot" mob,throwing snowballs,stones and sticks.British soldiers fired into a crowed of colonists,killing 5 men.Then the colonists protest and they brought the soldiers to trial. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act on May 5,1773 was an act of the Parliment of Great Britian.Its principle over objective was to reduce the massive surplus of tea held by the finanicly troubled British East India company in it's London ware houses and to help the struggling company survive. -
The Boston Tea Party
To reduse tension in the colonies ,Parliment repealed almost all of the Townshed Acts.However,it kept the tax on tea,British officials knew that the colonial demand for tea was high despight the boycott.One night on December16,1773. Colonists disguised themselves as indians and sneaked onto the three tea-filled ships than dumped over 340 chests into the Boston Harbor.Soon the streets echoed with shouts of 'boston harbour is a tea port tonight!' -
1st Continetal Congress
Evreyone came together for the first Continetal Congress.The leaders remained locked for weeks of intense debate.Patrick Henry and others belived that violence was inavoidable.Wisley the delegates compromised.They encouraged colonists to countinue boycotting britsh goods but told colonial militas to prepar for war.Its goals was state the colonists concerns and ask the king to correct the problems. -
Lexington and Concord
Patriots arrived at Lexington where 70 armed minute men waited for them.The captain,John Parker yelled "Dont fire unless fired upon."Soon shots rang out.Than the fighting began.The battle ended in minutes,with only a few volleys fired.Eight men were badly out numberd and they all lay dead, and ten were wounded.Some of the British troops,frustrated because the stock pile had disapeared --set fire to a couple buildings.For some time colonists had called the British soldiers to retreat to Boston. -
Declaration of Independence
In June 1776, the second continental congress formed a commitee to write a document declaring the colonies independence.Thomas Jefferson was the main writer,he wanted all people posses unavalible rights,including the right of "life,liberty and the persuit of happyness."King george was passing unfair laws and interfering with colonial goverment.They wanted to break ties from Great Britian.On the fourth of July,1776,the continenal congress aproved the decleration of independence.
