Battle of Lexington and Concord
Even though the British heavy loses they still won the battle of Lexington and Concord. The British continued on to Concord. 174 soldiers from the British were wounded and at least 73 died. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The British won the battle of Bunker Hill or Breeds Hill. The British suffered heavy losses of more than 1000 dead and wounded. The British had to retreat and then returned twice more and then they finally won the battle. The British stated that beating the Americans would not be either quick nor easy. -
Battle of Long Island
The British won the battle at Long Island. The British had 42000 soldiers and the Patriot army only had 20000 soldiers. One of the patriot soldiers on his last breath said "I only regret having yet one life to lose for my country." -
Battle of Trenton
The Patriot Army scattered the British force. Washington led 2400 troops across a icy river to ambush the British Army. The British army split and General John Burgoyne led troops to Canada. Lieutenant Colonel Barry St. Leger moved east from Lake Ontario. Lastly, General Howe's troops captured Philadelphia. -
Battle of Saratoga
The Patriot's won a huge victory at Saratoga. Even though the British Army captured Philadelphia they were still all spread out and all needed supplies so General Burgoyne made a desperate attack and then soon surrendered. -
Battle of Monmouth
The Patriot's won this battle because the British had fled and were on there way to New York. Many were injured, killed or exhasted from the fighting because they were fighting in about 100 degree weather. Also,because of the weather Washington's own horse died from exhaustion. -
Battle of Cowpens
This battle was won by a regular British Army. It has said to be that this was the turning point in war for the South. This battle is said to be called Cowpens because they fought on a 500 yard grazing field for cows. -
Battle of Yorktown
The Patriots won the battle of Yorktown which soon ended to the end of the war for independence.With the help of France and some luck the Patriots won. There were 17000 France/Continental troops, an 9000 British troops were at Yorktown.
