    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    In the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the Colonists had very few people compared to the British, the Colonists and no intent of fight, until a shot was fired out of no where. The guns were fired and eight Colonists were dead.The British then moved to Concord to destroy weapons and guns. On the way back from Concord the British were able to hide behind fences and trees and they tagged them all the way to tag them all the way to Boston, but the British still won.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Militia's got more volunteers, about 20,000 strong. They began to fight and then they realized they they were not going to have enough ammunition. Captain Preston responded by saying " Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes." In the end the Americans had run out of gunpowder and had to withdraw. Although the British had won they still had 1,000 wounded or dead.

    In this battle the Patriots had only 20,000 soldiers. Nathan Hale decided to spy on the British but was caught and hung, he told them the only thing he regretted was that he only had one life to live for his country. The British had chased the Patriots from New Jersey into Pennsylvania, and the British had won the fight.

    When the British left some troops in Trenton Washington wanted to catch them by surprise. Washington led 2,400 troops across an icy river to surprise the British the next day. Then they went to Princeton and his army scattered the British. They wanted to control Hudson River, so they split up into three groups and got them and Albany.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The British plan for taking Albany was in trouble. American soldiers stopped St. Leger at Fort Stanwix, New York.
    General Burgoyne's army hadn't reached Albany either. He sent a force to the American supply base. A local militia group, defeated them.
    Patriots had stopped St. Leger at Fort Stanwix. Now American troops blocked and surrounded Burgoyne's army. Burgoyne made a attack but the Patriots were strong, the Patriots won.
  • Battle of Monmouth

    Battle of Monmouth
    Washington decided to march his men from Valley Forge toward the retreating British. Lee agreed to lead the advance party.
    The British struck first, by evening both sides were exhausted. Many men had been killed or wounded. Noticing British campfires in the distance, Washington decided to continue. At sunrise, he realized that the redcoats had kept their fires burning and were on their way to New York. The British had escaped, the Americans claimed victory.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    Battle of Cowpens
    The British mistook the re positioning of the Americans as a rout and ran into an unexpected volley of concentrated rifle fire coupled with a cavalry charge and followed by the return of the militia.
    More than 800 British troops were killed, wounded or captured. The Americans suffered less than 100 casualties in the first Patriot victory to demonstrate that they could outfight a similar British force.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    Washington ordered Marquis and an American army of 5,000 troops to block Cornwallis’ escape from Yorktown by land while the French fleet blocked the British escape by sea. Washington had completely encircled Cornwallis and Yorktown with the combined forces. Cornwallis finally surrendered to Washington in the field at Yorktown, ending the War for Independence.
