    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    This battle started the American Revolution. Paul Revere's famous ride was during this battle to warn the people of Massachusetts. American colonists vs. British. This is significant because this was the start of the Revolutionary War, and this was the first win for the colonists so this battle set the tone for the rest of the war.
  • Battle of Long Island

    Battle of Long Island
    This battle was an attempt by the British to seize control of New York. The British did this because it would isolate New England from the rest of the colonies. General William Howe led the British Army and Hessian troops against General Geroge Washington and the Continental Army. The British won the battle pushing the colonists out of New York City. This is significant because this pushed the colonists out of one of their colonies for the first time.
  • Battle of Princeton

    Battle of Princeton
    This battle was a conflict between General Cornwallis and General George Washington. General Cornwallis had moved his army to Trenton in an attempt to trap George Washington, but Washington had already started to move to Princeton. While on the move they met the rear end of the British army and the colonists outnumbered the British 5 to 1 there. This battle is significant because George Washington and the Continental​ Army was able to evade possible tragedy in Trenton.

    This battle is considered to be the turning point in the Revolutionary War. General John Burgoyne had attacked and beaten the Americans led by Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold. Then 14 days later he attacked again, but this time he lost. After this battle, the Americans convinced the French to enter the war as an American ally. This is important because the French entering the war would ultimately cause the Americans to win the war.

    General George Washington began the siege of Yorktown, which was where the British troops had pushed back to. This battle ended the war. George Washington had overwhelmed the British and had forced them to surrender​. This is significant because it was the final battle of the war, and was the final step for America gaining independence.

    American troops under the leadership of Brigadier General Daniel Morgan inflicted heavy casualties on the British troops who were guided by Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton. This battle is significant because it was a major turning point in the South. This battle provided the southern troops with a big morale boost.
