Lexington
At Lexington, Massachusetts in April 19 1775, a battle was being fought which only lasted 15 minutes. The British troops were fighting against the minutemen and beat them. -
Concord
The British troops were marching there way back to Boston on April 19, 1775, when 3,000 to 4,000 minutemen showed up. With all the opportunity these minutemen had they attacked the British troops killing most of them. -
Bunker Hill
On June 17, 1775, Thomas Gage sent out 2, 400 British troops to fight. During this battle 450 colonists were killed and the British experienced more than 1,000 injuries and deaths. Because of this, this battle is known to be the most devastating of the war. -
New York
The British’s main plan was to stop the rebellion that was happening. During the summer in 1776 they went to New York City with roughly 32,000 soldiers. Those soldiers were German mercenaries also known as Hessians. -
Trenton
On December 25th 1776, Washington took 2,400 men across the Delaware river unto Trenton, New Jersey. They successfully defeated the Germans without them knowing that they were going to be defeated. -
Saratoga
Burgoyne was obligated to surrender to the American Troops on October 17, 1777 in Saratoga after being completely surrounded by them. Having him surrender to them, gave America more support to win the war. Because of this, the French joined in alliances with them on February 1778. -
Philadelphia
The merchants Robert Morris was chosen by the Congress to be the superintendent of finance in 1778 in Philadelphia. Him and his associate both argued for a raise on money to be able to give salaries to the Continental Army. -
Valley Forge
In February 1778 the American troops were being helped to become stronger and better by Friedrich von Steuben in Valley Forge. This was also the year in which more than 2,000 soldiers died while being in a winter camp in the same place. -
Marquis De Lafayette
Marquis De Lafayette was also a very important help to the French in 1779. Because of all of the help they have received, the Continental Army was now powerful. -
Yorktown
The British General took his 7,500 soldiers to camp at Yorktown. 1,700 French and American troops enclosed the British and began the battle. After a month, on October 19, 1781 Cornwallis surrendered giving victory to America. -
Treaty of Paris
John Adams, John Jay, and Benjamin Franklin were all a part of the American negotiating team. This team was able to sign the Treaty of Paris in September 1783. This treaty gave the United States their independence and their designated land.
