The Capture of Fort Ticonderoga
Fort Ticonderoga was a key point access for Canada and the Hudson River Valley during the French and Indian War. On May 10, 1775 militiamen leaders, Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold, and troops attacked the Fort Ticonderoga, and captured the still-sleeping British at the Fort. This was the first American victory in the Revolutionary War and served as a morale booster and provided artillery for the Army. -
The Battle of Long Island
This battle was a part of a British campaign to seize control of New York and isolate New England from the rest of the colonies. British General William Howe & his troops along with the Germans attacked the left American troop, commanded by General John Sullivan. While General Henry Clinton attacked the troops on the right, commanded by General Sterling. Eventually both groups of American troops retreated. This defeat forced George Washington to back out of the fight at Delaware River. -
Invasion of Quebec
This invasion was an attempt by Patriot forces to capture the city of Quebec, which was occupied by the British. The Patriot forces were lead by Colonel Benedict Arnold and General Richard Montgomery in hopes that winning this battle for Canadian support. This was pretty big, because it was the first battle that the Americans had lost during the Revolution. About five years later Colonel Arnold became a traitor, agreeing to surrender the Hudson River fort for money and commander in British Army. -
Battle of Trenton
This battle was an attack on the Hessian forces, under the leadership of Johann Rall, at Trenton. It started after a German Lieutenant Andreas von Wiederholt was shot. George Washington divided his troops lead by General Nathaniel Greene and John Sullivan to block of any escape route. Rall attempted to establish a defensive perimeter but was shoot of his horse and died. Afterwards the Hessians surrendered. This victory pushed Americans to continue to fight for their independence. -
Battle of Princeton
On January 3rd General Charles Cornwallis prepared his troops to attack Washington and his troops. But Washington left campfires burning so he and his troops could escape without being heard. But as the British headed north they caught up to the Americans. However they were outnumber by the Americans 5 to 1. The British suffered greater causalities than the Americans. And New Jersey was free from the hands of Britain's Hessian mercenaries after the Patriot militia resumed control. -
Battle of Savannah
In December of 1778, British Lieutenant Colonel Archibald Campbell and his forces surprised attacked the American forces defending Savannah, GA. Since, the Americans were outnumber American General Robert Howe ordered the city be evacuated and for the army to withdraw. French and American forces tried to reclaim but failed. French troops included free Haitians, that later rebelled against the French control of Haiti.
