British took over Savannah, General Charles Cornwallis sailed south with 8,500 men. British's greatest victory is the capture Charles Town. Clinton then left for New York, leaving Cornwallis to command the British forces in the South and to conquer South and North Carolina.Cornwallis and his forces advanced into North Carolina, Patriot bands attacked them. Greene sent 600 soldiers with Danial Morgan to south Carolina. the
British expected the outnumbered Americans to flee, but the Continental Army fought back, and forced the redcoats to surrender. Cornwallis attacked Greene and won the war , but the Cornwallis lost 550 troops. Greene had weakened the British, but he worried about the fight for the South. He wrote a letter to Lafayette, asking for help. This was an important battle because it final led to the battle surrender of Yorktown. -

The Americans and the French closed in on Cornwallis. A French naval force defeated a British fleet and then blocked the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay, preventing a British rescue by sea. 17,000 French and American troops surrounded the British on the Yorktown peninsula and bombarded them. Yorktown lasted about 3 weeks. with his troops outnumbered and exhausted from constant shelling, Cornwallis finally surrendered. Washington and the French generals accepted the British's surrender.
