French-Indian War
It was known as the Seven Years war the war began in 1754 between England and France, it ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. It was caused because of a dispute over the control of the Ohio River Valley. The British won the war but it caused them to be in debt so it resorted to them taxing the colonists. -
Navigation Acts
This act was a series of laws that were passed by the British Parliament and it imposed restrictions on colonial trade. -
Stamp Act
The act was made to require colonists to pay a tax that was represented by a stamp, on many documents, papers and playing cards. It was imposed by the British government without the approval of the colonist. -
Quartering Act
The british sent soldiers who were to be "quartered' in housing provided by the colonists. -
Townshend Acts
This was an act that the Parliament passed to help pay the expenses that involved governing the American colonist. It initiated taxes on glass, lead, paper, and tea. -
Boston Massacre
It was a confrontation that happened on May 5, 1770, where nine British soldiers shot a crowd of three or four hundred who were throwing snowballs full of gravel, rocks and probably even nails. -
Boston Tea Party
It was an American political and mercantile protest that took place on December 16, 1773 by the Sons of Liberty. They did this to protest the British Parliament's tax on tea. -
Intolerable Acts (aka Coercive Acts)
It was a series of four laws that were passed by the British Parliament to discipline the colony of
Massachusetts Bay for the Boston Tea Party. -
Olive Branch Petition
It was adopted by the Congress on July 5, 1775. It was sent to the King as a last attempt to avoid formal war from being declared. -
Second Continental Congress
It was a meeting inside the Independence hall from the Thirteen colonies that United to support the American Revolution and the Revolutionary War. -
Battle of Lexington & Concord (aka “The Shot Heard Around the World”)
The shot heard around the world marked the start of the American war Independence. It persuaded many Americans to take up arms and support the cause of independence against the British. -
Common Sense
This powerful pamphlet was written by Thomas Paine in 1776, it argued forcefully for the American colonies to declare their independence from Great Britain. -
Declaration of Independence
It was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, the 13 colonies serviced political connections to Great Britain. This helped them have the Government of France as an ally and had the French assistance in the war. -
Articles of Confederation
Created a national government and limited the rights of the 13 colonies to conduct their own diplomacy and foreign policy. -
Daniel Shays’ Rebellion
Took place in western Massachusetts in result of high taxes and stringent economic conditions, armed bands forced closing of several courts so they can prevent executions of foreclosures and debt processes. -
Constitutional Convention (aka Philadelphia Convention)
This took place in Philadelphia from May 28- September 17 to address the problems of the central government because it was weak under the existence of the Articles of Confederation.
