French and Indian war
The North American conflict in a larger imperial war between great Britain, and France known as the seven years war. The American Indians were fighting to maintain control of their land and their cultural future. -
sons of liberty
The Sons of Liberty were a grassroots group of instigators and provocateurs in colonial America who used an extreme form of civil disobedience threats and in some cases actual violence to intimidate loyalists and outrage the British government. The Sons Of Liberty had their own flag which had 5 red and 4 white vertical lines. they also had the motto,.. "no taxation without representation". -
Stamp Act of 1765
This act required the colonists to pay a tax, represented by a stamp, on various forms of paper, documents, and playing cards. it was a direct tax impose by the British government without approval. -
Townshend Act of 1767
this act initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. In response to new taxes, the colonies again decided to discourage the purchase of British imports. -
Boston massacre
the Boston massacre was a confrontation in Boston, in which 9 British soldiers shot several of a crowd of three or four hundred who were harassing them verbally and throwing objects. This was a signal event leading up to the revolutionary war. -
Boston Tea Party
the Boston tea party was an American political and mercantile protest by the sons of liberty in Boston. these attacked ships with tea were from North America. -
Battle of Trenton
general George Washington's army defeated a garrison of hessian mercenaries at Trenton. The victory set the stage for another success at Princeton a week later and boosted the view of American troops. -
Declaration of Independence adopted
It was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776 the 13 American colonies served their political connections to Great Britain. the Declaration summarized the colonists motivations for seeking independence. -
Battle of Camden
one of the several devastating defeats suffered by the Americans in the early stages of the British military offensive in the south. This battle was a major victory for the British in the southern theatre of the American Revolutionary war. -
battle of Yorktown
Washington's forces defeated Lord Charles Cornwallis' veteran army dug in at Yorktown, Virginia. the siege virtually ended military operations in the American Revolutionary war. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty ended the American Revolution, and formally recognized the United States as an independent nation. This also granted the U.S. significant western territory. -
3/5 Compromise
This compromise stated that every non free person only counted 3 out of every 5 of them. this also increased the political power of slaveholding states. -
Constitutional Convention
a Convention of the Delegates from all the states except Rhode Island met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was to address the problems of a weak central government. -
Constitution is ratified
This was to create a government with enough power to act on a national level. which ended government under the Articles of Confederation.
