Benedict Arnold
Benedict Arnold was born on January 14th,1741. During the Revolutionary war Arnold proved to be a brave and skilled leader by helping Allen’s troops to capture Fort Tonconderoga in 1775, earning him a promotion to brigadier general. He also gained the support of George Aashkngton. However, money problems emerged and Arnold felt that not being promoted faster wasa factor that led to his betrayal. Arnold proposed to hand over West Point and it’s men. -
Marquis de Lafayette
Marquis de Lafayette was born on September 6,1757, in Chavaniac, France. He was part of the continental army and acted as a military leader during the Revolutionary war. He was a military leader and contributed to France’s political structure before and after the French Revolution. One of his major highlights while participating in the revolutionary war was leading various armies, in particular to the battle of Barren Hill. -
Battle of Bunkerhill
On June 17th of the year 1775, The British defeated the colonial army in the battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts and even though they lost, they were able to inflict casualties against their enemy. The battle also motivated them despite their loss. -
Declaration of independence
The Declaration of Independence was written in the Philadelphia state on July 4th of 1776 after the Congress came to an agreement. -
George Washington crosses the Delaware
On December 25,1776, George Washington crosses the Delaware with 5,400 troops. His plan was to surprise a Hessian force celebrating Christmas in their quarters in New Jersey. Only 2,400 of the soldiers led by Washington succeeded in crossing the cold river. By 9:30 am on the 26th of December, the German town had surrendered because their defenses were weakened and they underestimated Washington’s army. -
Battles of Saratoga
The battles of Saratoga were a major turn during the Revolutionary war because after defeating General John Burgoyne, France saw the colonies as a reliable ally since they were able to keep up against the British. That was when the French decided to join the war as the colonies’ ally. -
Battle of Barren Hill
The battle of Barren Hill revolved around British forces from Philadelphia whom attempted to trap a troop of Continental guarding Valley Forge. The battle took place in Barren Hill with Lafayette and his men spying on the British in Philadelphia. Even though the British knew that Lafayette was spying on them Lafayette knew about it all along. Lafayette resulted victorious in preventing any disaster in valley Forge as a result of being the victor of the war. -
Courthouse
new British commander, Henry Clinton, followed a defensive strategy to New York. George Washington ordered Charles Lee to attack the British from he rear. However, the British army was defending the rear and in order to avoid any risks, Lee called a retreat. The problem was his signal was too late and Washington had already begun his attack with part of the army retreating and the other being ready for battle. Both the British and Colonial armies battle and countered attacked each other. -
The battle of Yorktown
George Washington led an army of 17,000 French and continental troops to the battle of Yorktown, the most important battle of the Revolutionary War. Here they fought the British general,Lord Charles Cornwallis,and his army made up of 9,000 British troops.
