The Proclomation of 1763
After the French and Indian War, many of the colonist had it in mind to expand westward. The Proclomation was established to prevent the colonist from expanding past the Appalachian Mountains. It also established 4 new colonies. -
The Sugar Act
Parliament passes the sugar act to regulate trade and raise revenue from the colonies. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was issued by Parliment to the Colonist to regain money to come out of the debt from the 7 Years War. The act taxed all printed papers that the colonist used, including documents, ship papers, and even playing cards. -
The Boston Massacre
This was a street fight that occured in Boston between a mob of rebelling patriots and some redcoat soliders. The people of Boston were very unhappy with the presence of the British soliders and attacked a senative, After soliders were called in for help, they fired into the mob, killing 3 people and wounding 8 others. -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act was issued by Parliment to grant the failing British East India Company a monopoly of tea sales in the colonies. The people of the colonies, however, believed this act was passed to make the colonist buy things from the already placed tax acts. -
The Boston Tea Party
This was a protest on the Tea Act by the Sons of Liberty. They went into the harbor and threw tea off of the ships into the water. -
The First Continential Congress
The congress met in Philadelphia over 51 days and issued the Decleration of resolves. -
Ride of Paul Rever
Ride at midnight where Paul warned everyone that the British were coming. He was told to hang 1 light if they were coming by land, and 2 if by sea. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
The minutemen and the red coats battled for the first time this day. This is known as the "Shot Heard Round the World". -
The Second Continental Congress
The congress managed the colonial war effort, and moved incrementally towards independence, and began moving torwards adopting the United States Declaration of Independence. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The colonist take a defeat from the British in Massachusettes, but with fewer casualties than the British. -
Cherry Valley Massacre
British forces attacked a villiage in Cooperstown, New York. More than 40 people were killed and about 70 were took as prisoners. -
Articles of Confederation Adopted
The Articles was a document served as its first constitution among the colonies. -
Treaty of Paris Signed
The U.S. & Great Britian signed the Treaty of Paris and recognized America as free from Britain. -
U.S. Constitution Signed
Signed in Philadelphia, the same place the Decleration was signed. Some people who signed the document were George Washington, James Madison Jr, and Benjamin Franklin.
