    Navigation Acts
    Colonists Reaction: The Navigation Acts were a positive event for both the colonist and the people living in England. The laws permitted shipbuilding in the colonies and dock jobs for the englishmen. Also it brought in import taxes to England.
    Analysis: This is an example of distrust. During this time that colonists thought that they were British citizens. The colonists did not feel threatened by the British government either that this time.

    Colonists Reaction: The colonists did not care for the Native Americans. To them the land that belonged to the Native Americans belonged to them. They kept moving west making it hard for the British government to enforce the use of the Proclamation Line.
    Analysis: This is an example of differences. The colonists did not follow the British rule therefore they are at a disagreement with them.

    Colonists Reaction: The British government’s rule in the new Sugar act caused the colonists to think about the British rule. They finally realized that the British were getting more control of the colonies and needed to be stop. As a result of this reaction to this event it just added more fuel to the Stamp Act in more years to come.
    Analysis: This event is an example of differences. The colonists and the British government did not see eye to eye when this act was made.

    Colonists Reaction: As a result the colonists boycotted British goods and harassed those that sold the stamps. They also started to create the Declaration of Rights and Grievances.
    Analysis: Again this is an example of unity and differences. The colonists are working together to boycott British goods. Meanwhile the colonists are not in agreement with the laws leading to them not following British rule.

    Colonists Reaction: The colonists are starting to realize that the British government doesn’t really care for them. As a result the colonists start to work together and become one team. They form the First Continental Congress and start writing the Declaration of Colonial Rights.
    Analysis: This is an example of both differences and unity. This is when the colonists first start working together to create an army. Also the colonists and British government do not get along so well.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    Colonists Reaction: The colonists were starting to get really frustrated with the British government. This is when they came up with the famous saying “no taxation without representation”. The colonists also started to boycott more of the English imported goods.
    Analysis: The Townshend Acts are an example of differences because again the colonists do not believe what the British government is forcing upon them. Also it is an example of unity because the colonists are working together to boycot
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Colonists Reaction: After the jury concluded that the British soldiers did the act out of self-defense the colonists didn’t want anything to do with the British. They all came together and started to remember why they came to the New World in the first place. They created an engraving saying that the British were out for murder if the colonists decided to fight against them.

    Colonists Reaction: The colonists spread the word of this and created a large group of rebels. The group dressed up as Indians and dumped about 18,000 pounds of tea in the Boston Harbor.
    Analysis: This event is also an example of violence. The colonists damage the British’s property by throwing their tea in the harbor.

    Colonists Reaction: When the British made it to Lexington the colonists intercepted and the “shot heard around the world” was fired. Defeated by the British the colonists met them again at Concord. Again the two groups started to fire at each other. These two battles started the American Revolution between the British and the colonists.
    Analysis: The battles are an example of violence. Both parties are out for blood and are not afraid of killing each other.
