    The French and Indian war.
    The french started building forts on land in Canada that was claimed by both the French and the British. The British colonists viewed this as an attack. They started fighting in 1754 and both had the help of the Native Americans.     The Proclamation Line of 1763 was a British-produced boundary marked in the Appalachian Mountains at the Eastern Continental Divide. Decreed on October 7, 1763, the Proclamation Line prohibited Anglo-American colonists from settling on lands acquired from the French following the French and Indian War. The proclamation was made because the British did not want the tension between the french to continue. Since the colonists could not expand they could not bother the french.

  • Quartering Act.

    Quartering Act.
    The colonists had to provide housing for the soldiers. The British forced The colonists to house the soldiers even though they did not want to. If you refused to house the soldiers you would be punished for your crimes. Also if you fought back the British would probably have you tared.

    Most of the colonists did not approve of king George the third sending troops to Boston. The colonists started calling the British troops names and throwing snowballs.     This allowed the British east India company to sell tea for a low price. This hurt merchants because they could not compete with the prices. Then they still had to pay taxes on the tea. Since the merchants could not compete they struggled to make a living because they could not sell their tea.
  • Boston Tea Party.

    The colonists knew what Parliament was doing by selling the tea super cheap. The colonists were furious about what parliament had been doing. The sons of liberty boarded three ships in the Boston harbor and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. The sons of liberty then fled the scene and waited for the British reaction.

    The intolerable act was a series of laws enforced by king George the third. They closed the harbor until all the money was paid back from the tea that was dumped.     The colonists were angry with the British for taxation without representation. All the colonies except Georgia met in Philadelphia to discuss problems with the British.     This battle marked the beginning of the revolutionary war. The first shot was fired during this battle. The first battle was at Lexington Massachusetts.   • Second Continental Congress.

    Second Continental Congress.
    The colonies met in Philadelphia to discuss what to do next after the battles of Lexington and Concord. They discussed breaking away from England but some representatives did not think it was a good idea. They sent a letter to king George the third of Britain asking for a peaceful way to resolve the problems. They also made George Washington the commander of the continental army.

    It was the first major battle of the revolution. The battle was three attacks.     The olive branch petition was a letter to king George the third. It was a letter telling the king that they wanted to resolve their problems peacefully. However king George ignored the letter.     Thomas Paine was a patriot who wrote the pamphlet common sense. In the pamphlet he attacked king George the third as a tyrant. He also argued that one person should not rule but, the people should rule themselves.     Battle of New York.
    The British and the colonial army were fighting over control of New York. The British troops attacked the American forces stationed on the western side of long island. By evening many Americans had been captured, killed or driven away. The British then laid siege on the American soldiers at Brooklyn heights.
  • Battle of Trenton.

    Battle of Trenton.
    The general of the continental army George Washington and his troops traveled along the Delaware river. He did this to sneak up on the Germans before daybreak. When they arrived they took them by surprise and won the battle. The win of the battle gave people hope that they could win.
  • Valley Forge.

    Valley Forge.
    Valley forge was the winter encampment of the continental army from 1777-1778. Valley Forge was located in Pennsylvania. During the armies stay at valley forge they had shortages on food, clothing, and medicine. However the hills provided natural protection from enemy forces.
  • Battle of Saratoga.

    This battle is called the turning point of the war because it showed the french that the colonies could actually defeat the British. Since the colonies won this battle the french sent guns, soldiers and ships to help fight the British. the french became an ally to the colonies.
  • Battle of Monmouth.

    Battle of Monmouth.
    Monmouth was the biggest and longest day of the war. The battle took place on June, 28, 1778. The Americans won the battle against the British. The battle was important because it strengthened the Americans morale and hopes of winning.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    The last major battle of the revolutionary war. The french controlled the Chesapeake bay stopping the British from getting supplies. The continental army led by George Washington was fighting the British army led by general Cornwallis.     The treaty of Paris was a treaty that signified the end of the war. The Americans wanted independence from England. They also wanted all British soldiers to leave the united states of America. The British wanted the loyalists in the united states of America to be treated fairly.
