First Continental Congress
The representitives met in Philadelphia to resolve the conflict with the English. All of the colonies except for Georgia sent representitives. The representitives voted to continue the boycott of British goods. They wrote the a Decloration of Rights to present to the king. -
Fighting for Independence
Colonist had to choose sides. The patriots had fought for independence. Patriot Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty or give me death." The Tories remained loyal to the crown, many of them fled the country. Many of the other people remained nuetral. The Decloration of Independencde ignored many colonists. The phrase " The phrase all men are created equel" did not include woman. Some northern states took steps to end slavery. -
Shot heard around the world
The British General Decided to disarm the Boston Militia. The Son's of Liberty learned there plan. Paul Revere and William Dawes rode on horseback across the countryside telling them that the British were coming. After the "Shot heard around the world" the Minutemen and British forces started fighting then the Revolutionary War begun. -
Second Continental Congress
The representitives met in Philadelphia again. They chose George Washington to run the Continental army. The Congress also signed the Olive Branch Petition. King George rejected the peace offer. Benedict Arnold and Ethan Arnold took the fort Ticanderoga from the British. The colonials were ordered not to fire because they were low on amunition, they were only allowed to fire till you "see the whites in their eyes." The British took Boston but then General Washington drove them out of the city. -

Lord Dunmore's Proclomation
General Washington's first task was to build the Continental Army. 230,000 people served and 145,000 joined the militia. After the British offered freedom to enslaved Africans who fougfht for them, , the Continental Army allowed free African Americans to join. The woman then took over the men's jobs and served as messengers, nurses, and spies. -
Patriots attaack
The aggresive Pariots fired an attack on the British settlements in Canada but then were defeated in Quebec. -
Common Sense Pamphlet
Thomas Phane wrote the pamphlet that argued for breaking away from Great Britian. The writing was wrote so that most people could understand it. Paine believed that the people should make the laws. He convinced many colonists that it was time for independence. -
The Decloration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson with the help of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert R. Livingston, and Roger Sherman drafted the Decloration of Independence. The document had three ideas 1) that all men posses the unalienable rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." 2) King George the third had violated the colonists rights. 3) The colonists had the right and even the duty to break away from Great Britian. -

The Continental Congress approved the Decloration of Independence on July 4th 1776. Then the USA was born. -
Washington and 2,400 soliders
Washingto crossed the Deleware River with 2,400 other soliders. They suprised the British with a triumph in the battle of Priceton. -
Battle of Saratoga
The British suffered a massive defeat at the Battle of Saratoga. Spain and France decided to help the Americans. The foreign aid was asolutly needed. -

The winte kiled over a fifth of the soliders in Valley Forge Pennyslvania. -
Battle of Vinceness
George Rogers Clark an explorer and mapper built an army that was weakening the Briish. He captured British settlements and convinced the American Indians to stay out of the war. When the war moved to the souh the British enjoyed severl vicories. -
Bonhomme Richard defeats Serapis
The Americns attacked thier ships rather than fighting large battles. The British had a very lrge navy that is why they did that.The Americans had fewer than 100 ships but sank 200 of the British ships. -
The army's morale took a blow
The Patriots continued fighting using guerrilla warfare. Then the army's morale took a blow in 1780 when Benedict Arnold turned traitor. -
Peace negotiations begin
The Treaty of Parisof 1783 officially ended the war. It set the new nation's boundries and forced the British to notice the United states of America. -
Battle of Yorktown
Washington planned a combined American and French attack on Yorktown. The British were defeated after a week-long siege.
