    The English decided to take over the colonies from London. They started putting stamps on things and if there was a stamp on it, then people would have to pay tax on it. The patriots were very very angry. This is asymmetrical because the English did not process how upset the Colonists would be about it.

    Boston Massacre (patriot reaction?)
    Now the Declaratory Acts were being introduced to the colonies and these acts implied that London England would be running their government from across the ocean. So the Patriots were mad and were protesting. London sent over troupes to control it and when they were in Boston. Someone accidentally fired, causing an outbreak of shooting, killing 5 people. This event is asymmetrical because no one thought anyone would shoot in Boston.

    At this time in the Patriot uprising, the British Parliment decided to bring down the price of tea, but bring up the tax so high that it costed even more than before. The patriots were furious. They went on the ships that hed the big crates of tea, and threw them overboard into the harbour..this action was asymmetrical because the British had no idea that they would get so angry at the taxes.

    At this battle, the General Gage's secret plan was to first go to Lexington to capture Samuel Adams and John Hancock. Then they would merge to Concord where they would seize gun powder. But fortunately for the Patriots, Paul Revere noticed what they were doing and went around the two cities to tell the minute men. This event is asymmetrical because the British were not expecting the patriots to know what was going on.

    At the beginning of the battle the British were set up and ready to go, but then they realized they were on the wrong side of the bunker that the colonists made. This war took place both on and at sea. This battle is symmetrical because both of the parties were fighting at sea, and on land.

    This pamphlet written by Thomas Paine represented and argument from British rule. This was written easily to understand in that the Patriots thought it was unfair what the British were doing. This event is asymmetrical because Britain did not expect the colonists to respond so madly to the taxations.

    This document represented the independent political American tradition. It is also a reference that the Americans really stayed true to what's right when the British was doing so much wrong. this document is asymmetrical becasue the Eglish did not determine at all that the colonitsts would stand so strong to wa=hat's true against their leader.

    Battle at Trenton/Princeton (patriot reaction?)
    For the whole winter the Patriots had been living out in a cold valley fro the whole winter. They decided to attack on the British and Germans. So they went across the river on Christmas and attacked them unexpectedly. The Patriots won because all the British and Germans were drunk; it was Christmas. This battle was asymmetrical because the British and Germans were not expecting the Patriots to attack AT ALL.

    Battle of Saratoga
    There were 2 battles of Saratoga. On September 19th General Burgoyne achieved a small victory over the American forces. On October 7th, Burgoyne attacked the Americans again, but now at Bemis Heights. This event is symmetrical because the Britich attacked the Americans 2 times, and both times the British won.

    During this war in the South, the British were still getting used to the hot and very muggy climate. This was the British's last resort to winning the war. This battle was asymmetrical because the British were getting revenge on the patriots by going to every town and attacking in them very terribly, when the patriots did not do anything.

  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    In this battle George Washington was commanding 17,000 French/Continental forces, while the British only had 9,000. By this time on the 17th Washington had completely encircled the entire British forces. This event is symmetrical because the patriots had just lost all of their long previous battles, and now the British are finally losing one.
