Fighting at Lexington
The british troops were marching to Concord and five miles away they were stopped at Lexington by minutemen. They ordered the militia to drop their weapons but someone let off a shot and the british troops fired into the crowd killing 8 minutemen. the first battle of the Revolutionary war only lasted 15 minutes. -
Battle of Concord
The british troop kept marching to concord and found an empty arsenal. The turned around to march back to boston. the 3000-4000 minutemen that were hiding behind stonewalls and trees fired upon the soldiers killing many of them. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
British general, Thomas Gage sent 2,400 british troops to bunker hill to fight militiamen. The colonist held their fire until the last minute where they killed many british troops until they finally retreated. By the end of the battle the british lost over 1,000 deaths and the colonist only 450 men. -

The british attempted to seize the New York City. They sailed into new york harbor with 32,000 soldiers. The Continental Army tried to defend New York but soon retreated. -
Battle of Trenton
George Washington and his troops traveled across the frozen Delaware River and marched towards Trenton, New Jersey. They defeated a group of Hessians in a surprise attack. -
Battle of Philadelphia
After defeating the Hessians the british regrouped and marched to Philadelphia. They then captured the American capital in Philadelphia. -
Battle of Saratoga
General John Burgoyne planned to go to Albany from Canada where he would meet british troops. He didn't realize that they were preoccupied with holding Philadelphia and were not coming. American troops surrounded him forcing him to surrender. -
Event of Valley Forge
George Washington and his troops were fighting to stay alive in the winter months. More the 2,000 soldiers died but they kept marching on. -

Marquis de Lafayette offered his help in the war. He rallied France for French reinforcements and led a command in Virgina. -
Battle of Yorktown
French and American Troops surrounded British troops and bombarded them day and night on the Yorktown peninsula. Cornwallis surrendered a month later and America defeated the british. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris was signed which confirmed he U.S independence and set boundaries of the new nation. The U.S now was from the Atlantic Ocean to the mississippi river and from Canada to the Florida Border.
