During the winter of 1777-1778, Washington and his men spent the winter camped at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. This was 20 miles west of the British, who spent their winter in Philadelphia. The Patriots did not have enough food, clothes, supplies, and men. Many die from sickness and starvation.
