Navigation Acts
A set of laws trying to stop the colonies from trading with other countries other than England. Led to other laws like the Sugar Act. -
French and Indian War
1754-1763 The first war of the American Revolution. The war was against the British and the French but fought mainly in North America. The was began because the British were attempting to branch out to the west, which is french territory. Ended up with the British winning, resulting in the Treaty of Paris. -
Proclamation 1763
Document made at the end of French and Indian war, basically stating the plans to create settlements on the western frontier. -
The Sugar Act
An act Parliment set into play in America, increasing taxes on sugar to make revenue for Britain. Began making colonist question the power of G. Britain. -
The Stamp Act
Parliament taxed colonists for any sort of document. This was to relieve them from their debt, but ended up causing a lot of disruption amoungst the colonists. Debt caused by French and Indian War. -
Quartering Acts
Required colonists to give up their homes for British officials to stay in. This really made the colonists upset. -
Townshend Acts
Basically just a set of taxes giving the English revenue and punishing New York for not succumbing to the Quartering Act. -
Boston Massacre
Was a physical fight, between colonists and british soldiars. Many colonists died. Caused a lot of resentment and anger towards the British government. -
Boston Tea Party
The British were taxing tea for revenue, therefore the colonists dressed up like indians and dumped all of the tea in the Boston Harbour.

Intolerable Acts
A cluster of laws that were passed by British government in 1774. Four of the five acts were directly related to the Boston Tea party, almost punishments for it. The fith act was to extend Quebec. These acts infuriated the colonists and then triggered the First Continental Congress, which then triggered the actually revolution. -
First Continental Congress
Leaders of the thirteen colonies banned together in Philadelphia to decide a proper response to the previous Intolerable Acts. They tried to talk it out with Britain but Parliament said "no". -
Patrick Henry
Very famous speech he spoke at the House of Burgesses fighting for his freedom. He believed the colonists should have a mobile army and fight for their freedom. -
Battle of Concord
The first real war fought in the American Revolution. The English came in to the colonies and were planning on destroying their war supplies. The colonists found out and battled them. Colonists one. Beginning of American Revolution. -
Common Sense
Thomas Paine specificly wrote this in normal speaking language so that everyone could understand and read it. It was the first published text that was so blunt about American independence. Paine asked for freedom in the novel. -
Declaration of Independence
The document that declared The United States of America seperate from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson wrote first draft. "America's birthday!" -
Franco American Alliance
Louis XVI creates an alliance with American to continue to fight off the English. French supplies money and weapons. Over time the alliance fell through due to America's lack of loyalty to France. -
Treaty of Paris
The formal ending to the American Revolution. Very important document and agreement.
