Shot Heard 'Round The World
On April 19 , 1775 700+ British troops reached Lexington (they were sent to capture Sam Adams and John Hancock , and destroy the weapons) The colonists refused to drop their weapons. No one knows who shot first but , within a few minutes eight militiamen lay dead. The British marched on to Concord. -
Battle of Concord
At Concord, Massachusetts the British destroyed military supplies. A battle broke out at the North Bridge which cause the British to retreat. The colonists chased the British back to Boston and the only thing keeping them from destruction was the arrival of 1,000 troops. -
Second Continental Congress
Congress named George Washington commander of the Continental Army. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The redcoats won the Battle but at a big cost , they lost more than 1,000 , compared to some 400 of the militia. -
