  • Anti-Federalist v. Federalist

    Anti-Federalist v. Federalist
    These parties both emerged after the ratification of the U.S constitution because of split ideas regarding the document. The Anti-Federalist wanted to enforce personal rights and liberties so they could not fall under a monarchy, and Federalist were not to press about the rights but they compromised to get it passed. Anti-federalist backed Thomas Jefferson and Federalist backed John Adams.

    John Adams 1800
    This is a major realignment period because the jeffersoians defeated the federalist and the party begin to colaspe. Jefferson became president. With Adam's party coming to an end and a new party had to be formed to oppose the Jeffersoians.

    Jacksonian Democrats came to power in 1828 and this is considered a critical realignment period because it split the democratic party in two. The other side was not so optimistic about Jackson's views and the way he governed america
  • Democratic Party

    Democratic Party
    The modern day democratic party was founded by Andrew Jackson. There main issue had to deal with banking and tariffs. This party was created because Jackson wanted to take a new approach in his own unique way. He was a very powerful president. This party is significant because it was the beginining of a new era in the Democratic party.
  • Whig Party

    Whig Party
    The Whig party supported Congressional power over executive power, and strove to limit the power of the president through such initiatives as limiting presidential terms. Unfortunately, the party had a short lifespan and was falling apart due to fissures over the question of slavery. Significant because the problem this party failed would later be a problem for the whole entire country.
  • Republicans

    This party emerged to combat the Kansas Nebraska Act which threatened to extend slavery in more territories. This party is significant because since they emerged in 1854 they have been a major political party ever since>
  • James Buchanan/Civil War

    James Buchanan/Civil War
    James Buchanan won the election. Republicans won the election. Whigs were crushed and buried and just eventually died down. This is critical because whenever a major party is no more another one must replace it so the other side is not to powerful and winning all the elections. Slavery was a major issue.

    Republicans defeated William Jennings Bryan of the Democratic party.Economic issues shifted loyalties to East instead of the West. It became Cities versus the farms in this election.
  • Bull Moose Party

    Bull Moose Party
    The bull moose party was a major third in the United States it was created so that Theordore Roosevelt could run for president because William Howard Taft was selected as the republican nominee. The significance of this party was that it split the republican vote allowing Democratic nominee Woodrow Wilson to win the election.
  • FDR prgressive movement!

    Democrats came to office under FDR. He was president during one of the worst economic depressions in our history. Economic depression triggered new coalition for Democrats. This depression triggered a change in voting because of FDR's progressive movement.
