  • Wilson’s Presidency term

    Woodrow Wilson was president during WW1. He was a democrat and served for a full two terms (1913 - 1921)
  • WW1

    World War 1 originated in Europe due to the assasinaation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and soon involved the rest of the world. It was commonly referred to as the Great War or the war to end all wars. The fighting style trench warfare was the primary way battles took place. There were more than 16 million deaths composed of soldiers and civilians. (July 1914 - November 1918).
  • Luisitania

    Luisitania
    The Lusitania was a British ship that sunk due to a German boat torpedoing into it. There were 1,100 casualties and 120 of those were American.
  • First Woman Elected to Congress

    Jeanette Rankin was a republican women's rights advocate from Montana. She was elected for the first time in 1916 as the first woman in Congress. At the time WW1 was occurring and she voted to keep the US out of it as she was against war.
  • Great Migration

    It was the migration of more than 6 million African Americans from the south to the more northern cities of the US. They left because it was hard to get jobs and the segregation laws were very harsh. During WW1 there were many industrial jobs available that many Black Americans took advantage of. It lasted from 1916 - 1970.
  • Lenin led a Russian Revolution

    Lenin led a Russian Revolution
    Vladimir Lenin was a Russian Communist of the Socialist Bolshevik Party that came to power during the Russian revolution. The Revolution began with Lenin’s party launching a coup.
  • Selective Service Act

    President Woodrow Wilson signed the Selective Service Act into law in the year 1917. The law stated that men from ages 21-30 were required to enlist in the military.
  • Espionage Act

    The Espionage act signed by President Woodrow Wilson, made it illegal to obtain any information that would interfere/hurt the US or promote enemy success. Violators of this law would have to pay $10,000 and a sentence to 20 years in prison.
  • Influenza Epidemic

    Influenza Epidemic
    The flu virus affected an estimated 500 million people and around 50 million were killed by it. It spread all over the world where it was first identified in Europe and the US. (February 1918 - April 1920)
  • Wilson’s 14 Points

    It was a speech given by President Woodrow Wilson to Congress about war. This speech encased a plan to end WW1 and proposed points to prevent any future conflicts of war such as WW1.
  • Sedition Act

    This act made it illegal for people to insult the government, flag, constitution, or the military in a harmful way. Similarly to the espionage act the punishment for committing any of these crimes was a $10,000 fine and/or 20 years in prison.
  • US Senate rejects Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles was the formal document that ended WW1. The US Senate rejected the signing of the peace treaty in an attempt to keep the US out of future foreign affairs and keep out of the League of Nations.
  • Schenck vs. US

    This court case involved a man named Charles Schenck who argued that his violations of the Espionage Act took away his freedom of speech. The Supreme Court declared that the first amendment rights could be restricted if the speech in question posed a danger or threat.
  • The 18th Amendment

    The 18th Amendment
    This amendment was commonly referred to as prohibition. It banned the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcohol. The result led to a spike in the illegal sale of alcohol known as bootlegging and speakeasies which were underground bars.
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    This amendment gave women the right to vote also known as women’s suffrage. It was first passed in May of 1919 but was only made an amendment when Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify it.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    Teapot Dome Scandal
    A scandal involving President Warren Harding’s administration. Harding’s secretary of interior, Albert Bacon Fall was leasing federal oil reserves and had received $400,000 in bribes. The scandal also went by the names of Oil Reserves Scandal and Elk Hills Scandal. It lasted from the years of 1921 - 1923.
  • First World Series Broadcast on Radio

    First World Series Broadcast on Radio
    The World Series game between the New York Giants and the New York Yankees was broadcasted for the first time on the radio.
  • First Winter Olympic Games

    First Winter Olympic Games
    It was held in Chamonix, France with 258 athletes attending and 6 different sports being competed in. (January 25, 1924 - February 5, 1924)
  • Mickey Mouse’s Creation

    Mickey Mouse’s Creation
    Walt Disney was animating films with a Rabbit named Oswald but his distributor took the rights to the character. He eventually altered the rabbits appearance and came up with Mickey (who’s original name was Mortimer).
  • The Wall Street Crash

    The Wall Street Crash
    The biggest stock market crash in US history that occurred in 1929. It was also referred to as the Great Crash and it ultimately sparked the Great Depression.
