What: Some Native American tribes fought with the French over land against the British colonists and other Native American tribes.
When: 1754-1763
Where: Present day Great Lakes region of he United States
Why: If we would have lost this war, who knows where our boundaries with the French or even Native Americans might be.
How: They fought with bayonets and muskets. -
Great Boston Fire
Who: Colonists of Boston, Massachusetts
What: Great Boston fire- destroyed 349 buildings
When: March 20th, 1760
Where: Boston, Massachusetts
Why: Left over 1,000 people homeless.
How: There is no known cause of the fire. -
Boston Massacre
Who: The British soldiers and colonists
What: Bristish soldiers shot and killed 5 colonists.
When: March 5th, 1770
Where: Boston, Massachusetts
Why: The colonists were definitely getting more impatient about being their own country.
How: They used guns to kill the 5 colonists in the middle of the street. -
Boston Tea Party

What: Boston Team Party, the colonists threw a lot of tea off of a ship
When: December 16th, 1773
Where: Boston, Massachusetts
Why: to protest British tea laws
How: Colonists boarded the ships and threw the boxes of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
U.S. Constitution Convention Ajourned
Who: George Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson
What: Our present day governing document was sent out in hopes of it being ratified
When: September 17th, 1787
Where: All 13 original states.
Why:This people of paper became our nation’s governing document so I thought to include it.
How: Only 9 states needed to ratify it, and they did. -
John Adams becomes 2nd President

What: He becomes second president.
When: March 4th, 1797
Where: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Why: This was the first contested presidential election.
How: John Adams won electoral vote over Thomas Jefferson 71-68. -
Louisiana Purchase
Who: USA & France
What: USA acquired the Louisiana Territory from France.
When: April 30th,1803
Where: Louisiana Territory
Why: This event was important to the expansion of the United States.
How: The United States paid 50 million francs (11,250,000 US dollars) to France to obtain the land. -
African Slave Trade ends
Who: slaves, US, Africa
What: African slave trade ends
When: January 1st, 1808
Where: US, Africa
Why: This is when we stopped circulating slaves and making them get on those big terrible ships without a source of food or water. They were so contaminated with disease as well.
How: Southern congressmen joined some from the north in order to pass the law to abolish African Slave Trade. -

What: War of 1812- war between US and UK for multiple reasons.
When: 1812
Where: US and Canada
Why: British cut of American trade with France and it really hurt American economy. How:They seized American ships and sailors. -
Invasion of Florida ( Seminole War )

What: Invaded Florida in Seminole War

Why: To obtain Florida without having to pay for it.
How: By invading the territory and demanding it be handed over to the Americans. -
First Women’s College Founded

What: Troy Female Seminary was founded
When: 1821
Where: Troy, New York
Why: If this was not founded, women might not have gotten a higher education even to this day.
How: City of Troy raised $4,000 tostart buildong the school how Willard imagined it. -
The Opening of The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad

What: first train to be able to transport freight and people.
When: February 28th, 1827
Where: The Midwest & New England
Why: Start of a normal transportation system for people.
How: Investors. They hopes that Baltimore could compete with New York for Western trade. -

What: removal of Native Americans from east to west

Why: 4,000 Native Americans died
How:US government made Cherokee indians give up their land east of the Mississippi and forced into present day Oklahoma -
Law for Married Women to Own Property is Passed
Who: women is the US
What: The Married Women Property Acts are starting to pass.
When: 1839

Why: To grant women more rights.
How: She could own property under her husbands authority. -
First Woman in the United States obtains her Medical Degree
Who: Elizabeth Blackwell
What: First woman obtains medical degree in the United States.
When: January 23rd, 1849
Where: Geneva, New York
Why: There were only male doctors at the time.
How: She got her medical degree from the Medical Institute of Geneva New York -
Abraham Lincoln becomes 16th president

What: elected as 16th president
When: 1860

Why: After this happening, South Carolina seceded from the Union. Then not long after that, the Confederacy was formed.
How: Abraham got 212 electoral votes against George B. McClellan’s 21. -

Why: Over 600,000 lives lost.

What:Executive order issued by Abe Lincoln to free the slaves in the South.
When: January 1st, 1863
Where: Washington DC
Why: This document thankfully helped most slaves in the south achieve freedom.
How: The president proclaimed it so it must happen by law. -
Panic of 1873

What: Panic of 1873- a financial crisis that triggered a depression
When: 1873
Where: USA
Why: Post-civil war railroad construction investment was driven by government grants.
How: Too much capital was involved in projects that offered no immediate or early returns. -
First Kentucky Derby
Who: Oliver Lewis, Hal P. McGrath
What: First Kentucky Derby- Horse race
When: May 17th, 1875
Where: Churchill Downs in Kentucky
Why: 13 out of 15 jockies were African American at a time where they couldn’t do many activities like that because it was considered a “white man” sport.
How: He beat 14 other jockies and horses at a time of 3 minutes and 37.75 seconds.
