American History

  • Proclamation of 1763

The Proclamation of 1763 was a response to Pontiac since the British Empire was having conflict with the Native Americans. This proclamation caused the colonial settlers to be unable to access the lands on the side of the west Appalachian. This caused the thirteen colonies to be affected badly. The colonies weren't able to have good farmlands, buy land, or make any agreements which caused a big hatred towards Britain.
  • Currency Act

The Currency Act gave the British the ability to gain more control over the colonies by prohibiting them from printing their paper money. This affected the colonies because, without the paper money, they would suffer in the economy. The colonies argued with the British that this would cause their relationship to suffer even more and insisted that they needed it for their economic activity.
  • Sugar Act

The Sugar Act had caused the tax on things like molasses, sugar, and other things that came through the Caribbean to go up higher. This caused the colonies to become angry with the British because they believed that this was unfair. The colonies had started to argue with the Britains that they were violating their rights and that they were making the economy difficult for them.
  • Stamp Act

The Stamp Act was made so that they could pay for the British to be able to maintain the large army they had. This act caused things like official papers and publications to get taxed. The colonies protested that they were not okay with this act at all because they never agreed to the tax going on in parliament. This gave the colonies the ability to argue that this act opposed the idea of "no taxation without representation."
  • Quartering Act 1765

The Quartering Act was established so that the soldiers had a place to stay. The colonies were affected by this since they had to make room for the soldiers to be able to stay in their homes. But if they weren't able to they had to pay for them to stay in places like inns, ale houses, etc. The colonies would protest for the tax to be withdrawn and were against the soldiers forcing themselves into their homes.
  • Declaratory Act

The Declaratory Act gave the Britains full access to be able to tax and make laws towards the colonies. This was even worse for the colonies compared to the acts before since the British could control them even more now and they could do it any way they wanted to. The colonies had stated that the British were abusing their power and using it in a way that was negative.
  • Townshend Act

The Townshend Act was put up to be able to tax the colonies even more. This act started to tax things like tea, glass, paint, paper, and other things. The British had given the reason that they were using this money to fund the costs of their governing over the colonies. The colonies didn't take this act lightly since they had started to boycott British things. They had also protested about the British taxing them without representation and stating that they were abusing their power.
  • Boston Massacre

The Boston Massacre was when the colonists finally had enough of the British passing Acts that they weren't happy about. This caused the colonists to go bizarre on the British since they would disrespect British troops by throwing snowballs at them and vandalizing stores that contained British goods. In the end, the British ended up killing five people and leaving six injured.
  • Boston Tea Party

The Boston Tea Party was a protest from the colonists towards the British since they had had enough of the British controlling them and making unfair acts. The colonists had dumped a total of 342 chests filled with tea into the harbor.
  • Quebec Act

The Quebec Act consisted of 5 things which were the French civil law, Catholicism, crown rule, no elected assembly, and British settlers. These acts still left the colonists unpleased since they felt like most of these acts were taking away their freedom and land.
  • Intolerable Acts

The Intolerable Act was revenge that the British had done to the colonists because of the Tea Party. This act was also going to make Massachusetts and Boston suffer by isolating them from the others because of what they did. But the British's plan didn't work in their favor and ended with both colonies uniting against Britain.
  • Quartering Act 1774

The Quartering Act of 1774 gave the responsibility of finding a place where the British soldiers were to the royal governors instead of the colonists quartering them in their homes. Although this was a good thing for the colonists, they still felt like it was an obligation from the local authority which led them to not be content with the act.
