    Christopher Columbus Discovers America

    Christopher Columbus Discovers America
    Columbus traveled the from Spain in 3 ships with his crew. When he arrived to America he discovered many settlements and villages. He also went across the Atlantic multiple times and arrived in Trinidad. Many explorers found things to help America today, but Christopher Columbus started the beginning. This began a massive world of exploration.

    John Winthrop
    John Winthrop was a Puritan, and a governor who believed that the English church needed reformation. John had problems witth the economy. John loaned the colony some of his own funds. He was financially in trouble, he was also imporving the colony poilitcally, socially, and economically.

    First Permanent English Colony Was Founded
    A group of English settlers founded Jamestown, Virgina which was the first permanent English colony founded in America. This first colony influenced America for years to come in many ways including: customs, language, government, and aspirations. King James granted them access to explore many areas which helped them greatly.

    First Slaves Brought to America
    Many African Americans were brought to America after it found independence. People saw servents as too costly and wanted to adopt a cheaper way to have their needs met. Soon slaves were being used everywhere in the United States which ended up causing severe proglems in the country later on.

    King George was faced with paying off debt Britian accumulated. This war was the beginning to the 7 year war. The French and Indian War was fought between British America and New France, the British won.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    British created an act of British Parliment that took revenue from the American colonies by putting a tax on newspapers and ocmmercial and legal documents. Maybe people boycotted this idea. Congress ended up calling "The Stamp Act Congress", ithey made astatement saying British shoudn't have any control over the oclonies and the stamp act stopped in 1776.

    The Revolutionary War started witht the battle of Lexignton followed by the battle of Concord and ended with the adoption of the Constitution. Because of the war many people were taxed unreasonably.
  • Adoption of the Declaration of Independence

    Adoption of the Declaration of Independence
    John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin wrote the final draft of the Declaration of Independence, it was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. The Declaration of Independence mentions many things including religoin and the judicial system.
  • US Constitution Was Ratified

    US Constitution Was Ratified
    The supremem law of the United States establed the rules and powers of the 3 branches of government. By the time the Constituion was adopted in September 1787, but it wasn't ratified until June 21, 1778 by the remaining 13 states.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    John Adams wrote this letter which recognized the idea of freedom and establishing borders to help with the problems the country was facing at this time. This officially ended the American Revolutionary War.
  • Market Revolution

    The Market Revolution was known for it's people increasingly buying goods rather than handmaking what they needed. New inventions helped the economy and farmers grow, for example the telegraph, steampowered ships, and railroads. Early textiles hired young women for work, they worked for long, harsh hours in the heat.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    France explorered along the Mississippi River claiming it by adding sever scattered settlements. Spain signed a secret treay with France to return the Purchase back to them. The United States purchased 828,000 quare miles west of the Mississippi River for $15 million.
  • Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark Expedition
    Lewis and Clark and 12 other men traveled across the country to discover what we established and what we have now. They discovered many things still used today. Lewis served as the field scientist, chronicling botanical, zoological, meteorological, geographic and ethnographic information. Many people still have these skills today.

    The Seneca Falls "Declaration of Sentiments"
    The Seneca Falls convention was the first women's rights convention, it was "a convention to discuss the social, civil, and civil conditions and rights of woman". The convention spanned over 2 days, July 19, 1848 - July 20, 1848.

    Building the Transcontinental Railroad
    From 1850 to 1871 the transcontinental railroad was built east of Sacramento to Iowa. Before the railroad system was built traveling across the country costed around $1,00 and after it was almost $150.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    This allowed hard steps to be taken against slaves who ran away. Norherners didn't like this law and more Southerners agreed on it. 13 colonies adopted this act. By 1787 most northern states had already abolished slavery, man northerners were against slavery and wanted it abolished, including Abraham Lincoln.

    Dred Scott Case
    The Supreme Court decided slaves as property. Dred Scott was taken to court because he was living as a free man with his owner before returning to the slave state, Missouri. This made a huge impact on many slaves and the years to come in the problems with slavery and abolishing it.
  • Civil War

    Civil War
    The Civil War started when Confederate forces bombarded the Union in Charleston Bay and it ended when General E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia. There were battles after this but the surrender by General Lee is generally known as the end of the Civil War. April 12 1861 - April 9 1865
  • Freedman's Bureau

    Freedman's Bureau
    A U.S. federal government agency to aid freed slaves in the Soth during Reconstruction and many poor white people after U.S. Civil War. Many were hurt and poor and needed the help and attention from government at this time. Congress chose to help blacks, whites, immigrants, and other minority groups.

    Invention of the Telephone
    Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone which started a huge idea that turned into a great thing. The telephone has improved greatly since the first invention of it. It has helped the world grow and expand greatly.
