    Columbus

    Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement, is founded.
  • Mayflower Pilgrims

    Pilgrims off of the Mayflower settle in Plymouth Colony.
  • French/Indian War

    French and Indian War begins.

    French and Indian War ends.
  • Stamp and Quartering Acts

    The British Government pass the Stamp and Quartering Acts. the Quartering Act was for soldiers of the Crown to house in colonists homes. Stamp Act was tax on all paper.
  • Boston Massacre

    Street fight. A mob assaulted British troops. Troops fired on the mob and the media blew it out of proportion.
  • Boston Tea Party

    American colonists protested the British taxes by throwing tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • First Continental Congress

    13 colonies met up to discuss and protest the Intolerable Acts that the Parliament had passed.
  • Revolutionary War

    Revolutionary War begins. Paul Revere rides and warns Americans of oncoming British troops.
  • Declaration of Independence

    the Declaration of Independence is signed and adopted by Congress. The colonies become free.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    the Battle of Saratoga, Valley Forge takes place.
  • Articles of Confederation

    the Articles of Confederation are ratified.
  • Revolutionary War Ends

    The Treaty of Paris ends the American Revolutionary War.
  • The Constitution

    the Constitution is adopted.
  • George Washington

    George Washington becomes America's first president.
  • The Bill of Rights

    Bill of Rights is added to the Constitution. Becomes the first ten amendments.
  • Cotton Gin

    Eli Whitney invents the Cotton Gin. Neutrality Proclamation also occurs.
  • Washington's Farewell address

    Washington gives his farewell address and John Adams is elected president.
  • Thomas Jefferson

    Jefferson becomes president and Adams elects the "midnight judges." they were later recalled.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Jefferson surprises everyone with the Louisiana Purchase.
  • Lewis and Clark

    Lewis and Clark set out on their expedition to explore the newly purchased Louisiana territory.
  • James Madison

    James Madison is elated president. African slave trade ends.

    the War of 1812 begin against Great Britain and The United States of America.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Andrew Jackson leads American troops and defeats the British at the Battle of New Orleans.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    James Monroe gives a speech to Congress which later becomes known as the Monroe Doctrine.
  • Battle of Alamo

    the Battle of Alamo occurs in Texas. Texas becomes independent. Martin Van Buren is elated president.
  • Trail of Tears

    Cherokee tribes and others are forced to walk the path to Indian Territory. Over 3,000 die. Later became known as Trail of Tears.
  • Mexican-American War

    the war between Mexico and America begins. it ends in 1847.
  • Gold Rush

    Gold is discovered in California. This spurs the Gold Rush and more westward expansion.
  • Abraham Lincoln

    Abraham Lincoln is elected president. South Carolina also secedes.
  • Civil War

    The Civil War begins. the Confederacy is founded. Fort Sumter and Bull Run battles take place.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    president Lincoln frees the slaves in the south by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. The battle of Gettysburg and Vicksburg take pace.
  • Civil War Ends

    the Civil War comes to a halt when Gen. Robert E. Lee surrenders. Lincoln is also assented at the Ford Theatre. Slavery is banned by the 13th Amendment.
