Tariffs were imposed in international goods to protect American manufacturers and boost economy. These angered the Southerners involved in agriculture as it increased the price of production. -
Tariff of 1828
A higher tariff was secured. The South declared it as the "Tariff of Abominations" -
South Carolina and the Nullification Crisis
South Carolina declared the tariff of 1828 and 1832 null because they believed it was not in the best interest of the state. The state threatened secession if the tariffs were enforced. -
Force Bill
A bill passed in response to South Carolina's Nullification claims. Troops are sent to South Carolina to enforce the Tariffs and the federal law. -
