Birth of Alexander Hamilton
Born January 11, 1757 in Charlestown, St. Kitts and Nevis island in the West Indies. His father, the Scottish trader James Hamilton, and mother, Rachel Faucette Lavien, weren’t married. He had a poor, and difficult childhood. -
Hamilton Comes to America
In 1772, Hamilton arrives in America to attend college at Kings college in New York where he discovered his love for writing. He became interested in colonial cause and writing pamphlets in which he defended the first continental congress' proposal to trade with Britain. -
Revolutionary War
The Revolutionary War
April, 19 1783, where Hamilton was commissioned to lead an artillery company in the Continental army and fought in the Battle on Trenton and Princeton. He began to gain attention from Washington and began to build a reputation. -
Helped work on US Constitution
In 1787, after the war, Hamilton became an attorney and practiced law. When the constitutional convention was held in Philadelphia to overhaul the Articles of Confederation, Hamilton was chosen as one of the delegates from New York. -
Secretary of Treasury and Influence on US Government
In 1789, Washington appointed Hamilton as the first secretary of the U.S. Treasury. He wanted to provide financial stability as well as our first national banking system. -
Hamilton Dies
In 1804, Hamilton faces Aaron Burr in a duel where he was shot and killed. He is buried in Trinity Church Cemetery in New York City.
