First year without a Lynching
Lynching was done every year until now. Lynching is hanging of black citizens by the KKK. The police did nothing at all. -
The Bus Boycott
The Bus Boycott was a civil rights movement protest which started when a Black Woman in Alabama refused to give up her seat to a white male and to go sit at the back of the bus which was a law, She ws arrested and fined which made friends, family and their friends and family angry.
They decided to start a bus boycott. The busses passengers were 75% African-Americans which made the company loose money. Their slogan was "People don't ride the bus today. Don't ride it for the freedom". -
Gallup opinion poll
In 1957 the United States Suoreme Court made it a law that in public schools all racial segregation is illegal. This resulted in a opinion poll asking the population of Southern USA and the entire USA. People were asked if they approve or disapprove of the decison

Elizabeth Eckford
Elizabeth was one of the Little Rock Nine, African-American students that attended school. This was the first year that African-Americans were elligible for school. They woud be escorted in by troopes of the 101st Airborne DIvison of the United States Army.
On one of the school dsys Elizabeth Eckford was late for school and the escort in but that did not stop her from going anyway. The photo shown is Elizabeth walking to school while being followed by an angry mob. -
I Have a Dream Speech
Martin Luther King delivered a speech in 1963 which was the most famous speech for American CIvil Rights.
He spoke to over 250,000 civil rights supporters at Lincoln Memorial during the March of Washington. -
Assassination of Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King was the leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He was most famous for a speech "I Have a Dream".
When he was assassinated many riots were started. -
President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act
When President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act this was prohibiting discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing. -
Olympic Games - Black Power
At the 1968 Olympics in Mexico two African-Americans competed in the 200m running event. The Gold Medalist Tommie Smith and the Bronze medalist John Carlos shown in the picture are giving the raised fist, a black power salute. They also refused to look at the American flag aswell as wearing a Olympic Project for Human Rights badge,
The silver medalist, Peter Norman from Australia wore a OPHR to support the cause. -
Shirley Chisholm
Shirley Chisholm becomes the first major-party African-American candidate for President of the United States and the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination. -
