Proclamation of Neutrality
In April of 1793, Great Britian and France went to war. George Washington wanted to stay neutral and not take sides because the U.S. did'nt want to get into another war. So, even though we owed France, America stayed neutral.

Alien Sedition Acts
In 1798, John Adams created a list of laws called the Alien Sedition Acts. These laws limited the things that forigeners and immigrants could do. Adams created the Alien Sedition Acts to strengthen the security of the nation.

War with Tripoli May ,1801 to June, 1805
Tripoli wanted U.S. to pay for protection on the Mediterranean Sea from pirates. America refused Tripoli and on May 14, 1801 Tripoli declared war on the United States. There was a naval war for 4 years until the U.S. invaded Tripoli and they signed a peace treaty. This war caused Thomas Jefferson to get a bigger navy for America.

Louisiana Purchase
In 1803 France owned the Mississippi river and a lot of land around it. So Thomas Jefferson made a deal with France called the Louisiana Purchase. This Deal meant that America now owned the Mississippi River and double the land they had then. In 1805, Thomas Jefferson sent Marywether Lewis and William Clark to explore the new land.

Battle of Tippecanoe, 1811-1815
In 1811 James Madison pushed native americans that were living in the Northwest Territory to become American Farmers instead of hunting. They refused and after the Battle of Tippecanoe, the indians were pushed off their tribal lands and it was given to Americans. In 1815 Indian rights became invalid.

Monroe Doctrine
In 1823 James Monroe issued the Monroe Doctrine, which is a warning to Europe that if they try to interfere with any governments or affairs in North or South America, the United States would attack.

Tariff of Abominations
In 1828 John Quincy Adams approved the Tariff of Abominations. These taxes made forigen goods more expensive to purchase for the states. This act meant that the Southern states had to pay more because they didnt have that many factories so they needed to buy from other countries.

Indian Removal Act
In 1830 Andrew Jackson was getting pressure from white settlers. So, Alabama and Mississippi seized 5 native groups: The Cherokee, The Creek, The Chicksaw, The Choctaw, and The Seminole. Andrew Jackson then passed the Indian Removal Act and made those 5 tripes move west.
