The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was the first tax that was armed towards American colonist. It put a tax on all paper documents in the colonies. The British saw this tax as a source of revenue. since they still were deep in debt, from the seven year war. The colonists were strongly against this tax, because they agreed to their own representatives groups could take them. -
The Boston Massacre
British soldiers openly fired at a mob of colonists, killing five men. This caused for the colonies to protest and resist Great Britain, much more violently. -
The Intolerable Acts
A series of acts passed by the British Parliament to contain the unrest in Boston. The port was shut down as well as Boston was placed under Military law. May colonial protesters called for a boycott. One major group that participated in the boycott was the Sons of Liberty. -
The Battles of Lexington and Concord
The British were heading to Concord to seize a cache of weapons. Paul Revere noticed the troops and rode ahead to sound the alarm. The local militia formed, to intercept the redcoats. This battle marked the beginning of the American Revolution. -
The Declaration of Independence
The second Continental Congress creates The Declaration of Independence. Which was written by Thomas Jefferson. The document established the United States as its own nation. -
the battle of Yorktown
The American’s and their French allies Attacked British General Charles Cornwallis army at Yorktown, Virginia. This battle was a major turning point, in the Revolutionary War. General Washington realized that the battle could be won, because of where Cornwallis choose the location of his base. Washington had his troops on land block Cornwallis’s army from escaping and the French naval blocked his escape by sea. -
The Treaty of Paris
Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay started negotiations with the British in September, 1782. The negotiations ended on November 30, 1782. when preliminary articles were signed in Paris. However the articles didn’t go into effect until, January 20, 1783. When and Great Britain signed preliminary articles of peace. Then in September a formal agreement of peace of Paris was signed. -
The Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation were created by the second Continental Congress. The articles created a weak government, because all the states had their own independence government. However 1781-1787, when the articles were in affect the states and economy became unstable. Do to having a unstable government.
