    During the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, America displayed its world power militarily and economically by taking new territories, developing new products, implementing new manufacturing processes, and developing infrastructure that had a positive impact on people’s lives personally and in business. Technological inventions in America created a way of life for Americans that still exists today. This time period was a crucial time for Americans in becoming a nation second to none.

    1869- Transcontinental railroad completed
    The last spike was driven by Governor Stanford when the train tracks met at Promontory Summit, Utah. This joined the nation coast to coast opening up a whole new way of life for Americans by making the transportation of people and goods faster and safer from the east to west.

    Alexander Graham Bell was the first to patent the telephone and creating a communication like never seen before where Americans could communicate with Europe in hours instead of weeks making rural isolation a thing of the past in America. Mr Bell lived in Boston, Massachusetts but took his invention to Philadelphia to an expedition where he demonstrated the telephone amazing people with this new invention.

    Edison attempts over 300 times to create something to hold light for hours. By creating a vacuum inside the bulb, using the right filament and the use of lower voltage, he was able to succeed in creating a light bulb that lasted many hours. This made the light bulb more practical and economical. This took place in Menlo park, New Jersey.

    By winning the Spanish American War after the signing of the Treaty of Paris, America was able to gain territory that was beneficial to them. It was also beneficial in demonstrating the power of the American military to the world. The territories gained by the Americans included Puerto Rico, Philippines, and Guam.

    After the United States supported a revolution that led to the independence of Panama, the new Panamanian government authorized a treaty that allowed the United States permission to construct the Panama Canal which was completed in 1914. After it's completion, travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean was made quicker and easier for some commercial and military ships by them not having to go around the tip of South America.

    Ford started an assembly line in his car manufacturing facility in Michigan which reduced the production cost of vehicles such as the model T. This was in line with Ford's business philosophy which contained the fundamentals of making vehicles more affordable for consumers, increasing productivity and creating better working conditions for the employees. The assembly line process reduced the production cost of the vehicles so the average family could own a vehicle.

    Charles Lindbergh lands in Paris 33 hours and 23 minutes after he took off from New York. He accomplished this feat in a plane while flying solo which defied all odds and proved the skeptics wrong. Lindbergh also set the tone for future aviation as he expressed his interest in transatlantic flying becoming commonplace.
