The Civil Rights Movement started ultimately when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus. She was arrested for not moving to the back of the bus in Montgomery. This led to other revolts eventually happening. -

The goal of the Civil Rights Act was to make sure Americans use their right to vote. It was made to protect voting rights. It was another step into the Civil Rights movement. -
Hawaii and Alaska Become States in America
Alaska territory was purchased from Russia for $7 million. Hawaii was annexed as US territory. Both were admitted in 1959 as states. The two became the 49th and 50th state in America. Alaska’s economy is based on oil while tourism is very popular in Hawaii. -
President Kennedy Assassiantion
President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, TX by Oswald. He was riding in a presidential motorcade through Dealey Plaza. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson assumed the presidency upon Kennedy’s death. -
Martin Luther King Jr. was Assassinated
Martin Luther King Jr. was an advocate for people’s rights, especially those of color. Ames Earl Ray ended up wrongly shooting Mr. Luther. Many people of color were upset because they believed their views were somewhat rejected. -
Moon Landing
Man first landed on the moon. America’s NASA put Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon. The US spent a lot of money to do so. This was a big accomplishment in the space race. -
The Vietnam War Ended
Representatives of the United States, North and South Vietnam, and the Vietcong signed a peace agreement in Paris. This ended America’s military involvement in the Vietnam War.
